Arizona Chickens

I have Orpingtons, Astrolorps, Easter Eggers, Barred Rocks, RIR, Golden Laced Wyandottes, Sapphire Gems, two little bantams, Black Jersey Giants, and Cornish x. We also have Bronze turkeys and a Sweetgrass tom. :)
That's a nice flock! Are you within Tucson city limits? I thought there was a limit on critters there, although I could be wrong.

CCLB was never very outgoing or sturdy compared to the others that she arrived with from the hatchery. I don't know if it's typical of the breed or just this individual. She laid fewer than 6 eggs so she may not have been up to par. I figure saving 1 out of 2 in my hospital isn't bad.

Roger and his egg laying ladies are all doing well. I dug some ditches to handle drainage of the ~12" of snow as it melted off the pole barn roof. So they have some more "lazy river" areas off of that to explore.

The Barred Holland flock is doing pretty well. I've started to collect some eggs to hand off to Parront to hatch but they seem small compared to the rest of the eggs so I may wait for them to lay bigger eggs. I may be too soon for them to have good hatching eggs.

I had 3 of the CCLB before, but bred them to my old white Naked Neck rooster that was named Charley. Charley was Roger's daddy. I also have a green egg laying Naked Neck/CCLB hen that I kept. Her name is The Cowgirl, because she's white with scattered black feathering on her back.

Do you have a recent picture of Roger, so I can see him again?

And I plan to spend the day getting ready for a visit with Roger who does my taxes. :D

The other day I took a good look at a falling-apart chicken coop on my property. It looks like it might be repairable. Three walls are standing, and the roof is lying next to it. The only issue is that it's a fair distance from the house and visible from the road. Closer would be better to prevent thievery from humans and predators. The coyotes weren't out here singing the last two nights, so maybe they found a meal somewhere else. There's still the shed next to the house that was originally planned to become a chicken coop.

Hoping for chicks in the spring, if they ever get their act together. So far I haven't seen Big Ben doing *ahem* with the girls, and so far, no rings on any egg yolks.

Yesterday I seen the rooster breed with the red/buff naked neck pullet, so she must be going to start laying egg's shortly. I hope that it won't take long for her egg's to gain a good size for the hatching, because she's the one that I want to cross with Manoa to start up the naked neck version of the Aloha's. Hopefully, I will be able to get a couple more like her coloring soon.
