Arizona Chickens

After looking at silkies on line--that would work! The eggs are a different color, so it would be possible to tell them apart from leghorn eggs. I'm just wondering what the result would be if Big Ben decided to make a silkie one of his harem. That would result in one weird looking cross breed.

Wishing I had eggs hatching this weekend, too.

I just sent a message to a friend who makes signs, etc., asking about a sign saying The Chicken Palace. :)
The silkie eggs are small, just slightly larger than D'uccles eggs.. and off white.

Your Cock would want the Silkie to be a part of his harem. He sounds like a good boy, it would not be a problem. People on here cross their silkies with everything under the sun! :idunno
What incubator were you using?

A Little Giant still air incubator with a Little Giant egg turner.

I would not be surprised, that big Red Ranger cross stays in the nest a lot. I think she is a little young to be a broody, my Orpington went broody her second year.

I have heard of some pullet's going broody after just been started laying for a month or two.

I have been thinking of this. Once the chicken palace is built, the coop that they're in now can be used for quarantine, and I can keep an eye on Craiglist for any broody hens. Not too long ago, someone was griping about their hen going broody again and saying if she didn't stop it, he was going to get rid of her, and I'm thinking :drool Gimme the hen!

It would need to be a smaller breed, because I don't want them getting beaten up. At the chicken show, I saw a RIR about the same age, and she was quite a bit larger.
and the RIR's have a reputation for being aggressive with the other hens. I was complaining about my andalusian going broody. But, a couple of the other birds in the flock sneezed, and she's been through so much, she gets to stay. So maybe you could find a mellow bird that should tend to go broody, maybe a smaller NN or Dorking?

You get a better view with an incubator, though! You can hear them chirping, and Dylan is talking back to them . . . Whistling and clucking.

Really? I hope the duckling don't end up thinking that they are parrot's. :lau
