Arizona Chickens

I get cartons at Tractor Supply that say "Delicious Eggs" & "Homegrown". They do not say fresh or grade of any kind, but they do not have the term "Nest Run" printed on them. They have a place to write Name and Date. You could print some address labels with Nest Run. I just use free address labels on one end. The other option is to get a stamp and and ink pad. I just don't bother to put Nest Run on them. Lots of people save their cartons for me, and I just re-use those with my address sticker on them -- usually I put my sticker on the end to cover up the date. If you were selling eggs at a Farmers Market, you might have to comply with all those rules, but at ours the egg sellers are using old re-used commercial cartons, just like I do. They do not enforce all the rules here.
I guess we can always figure out something later if they do decide to enforce it.

Busy day here for me today. The next door neighbor's are in Texas this time. The husband's dad died yesterday, so I'm back to animal sitting (feeding and check water), and checking the mail. I also am just starting lock down on my hatching egg's.

We got Buster's 3 year rabies update shot that he was due for yesterday. He's already 10 1/2 year's old now.

Since I do not even go to the Farmer's Market, someone in our neighborhood would have to complain about my eggs to get any attention. My eggs are what they want, so they do not have any interest in getting me shut down by some rule enforcement guy from the Dept. of Ag. They give me the store cartons that they have saved, "Organic" Free Range" "Fresh" all in big letters. Since they are re-filling those cartons with my eggs, I can only think that they prefer mine. Mostly, I am explaining to them why these eggs are better not washed, and that when I do have to wash them it is just in warm running tap water. The eggs here get picked up twice a day and they get them the day after they were laid, mostly. I put the dates on a post-it. Sometimes the eggs will be in my frig for up to a week, but they're still far fresher than the ones in the store. They like looking at the birds in my yard when they walk past. One was showing me a photo she took of my rooster that Carole has now on her phone. Our whole neighborhood is missing him.

Hopefully that neighbor that reported you for the rooster won't learn about that law and report you for that too.

I have a bunch of cartons saved by a certain "customer" a chef who can't use our eggs at work so he buys a lot of eggs with the clear green cartons - EZ to take off paper labels & put sticky note on. He uses our eggs at home & gives us feed donation. 20210812_134833.jpg

It's nice to hear a rooster crow. I'm sure they do miss him. Do you know which of the neighbors turned you in for having a rooster?

BTW, you didn't share any rain with me. :( It got dark, cloudy, and acted like it would storm, but that's about it.

Most of the people who sold eggs at the farmer's market in Flagstaff just used a label and stuck it on their egg cartons. That's the same farmer's marked where I bought those eggs with chicks inside some years ago that I told you about. The seller of those eggs was from Camp Verde.

Anyone know where I can get some egg carton label's that say "Nest Run Egg's" at? Most that are available say "Fresh Egg's" or "Free Range Egg's". I noticed that the AZ. state law say's that if you are not registered and have a license to sell ton's of egg's, that your's must say "Nest Run Egg's", because they haven't been graded.
I buy plain cartons and print out labels that I put on the top. They cost me 41 cents after shipping.

We got half an inch of rain yesterday late afternoon. and it is getting dark and thunder is now being heard so we are about to get more. The sad part of this is if you dig down 3 inches the ground is rock hard and dry.

The hardness is from all of the kolache. It sink's into all of the sand and dirt and then hardens like cement. That make's it hard for the water to sink in good, and so it run's off into the washes and such.

That's why I start gardening in raised beds - if I fill those then I find some softer areas in ground. Although my greenhouse is less than half it's original 1969 size So there are lanes of concrete paths and ground outside the GH that we've filled with chicken house bedding and fallen branches and chipped branches - Perfect for future garden beds. Might need to get an electric fence around it all to keep skunk from digging in all that soft ground.

We are getting soaked again - and big winds now - everyone take care!

Nah, I'm familiar with Kolache, from our other house. its just that the soil is so dry it is hard. it breaks up easily enough and becomes sand like. the wash not far from the house had upwards of 7 feet of water go through it last night with that storm. I'll have to put in a call to the county tomorrow as it damaged the side of the road near the cement. The water dug out a 5 foot deep slash the whole length of the roadway by the wash. It ranges from a foot wide to over 15 feet wide. It will need to be repaired. My fear is if we get a good storm go through it can take out the road completely even though the cement is over 12 inches thick, if that happens we will be stuck until the end of monsoon season.

a 10 rattle or 10 year old Snake went after my little puppy, that's the third snake this year that has met my axe so far this summer. I will be repairing the backyard fence first thing tomorrow. the gate has a large gap in it that I can reinforce so nothing slithers through again

Scary, if the road should wash out underneath someone...

You've got faster reflexes than I do!
