Arizona Chickens

It's good that the Bielefelders are handling the heat and the other one has learned about the misters.
Yes, because that other one was panting really loud. I thought that she might die, but she's still going. She's the red colored Lakeshore Egger.

Maybe @Stacaroni should have taken her up to cooler climates when her hubby picked up the incubator! Sort of a home for hens that can't handle the heat? My black EE does by far the worst in the heat, but I'm not really worried about her.

I'll be in Phoenix next weekend... 😂

This hen was one of those one's that I was trying to sell for $10.00 each just a couple of month's ago or so before it got hot, because I only want to be doing the Bielefelder's. No one took me up on the deal.

Consider it a RESCUE :love :yesss:
At this point, I would let her go as a "rescue" for free if it would help her to get out of this heat that she's having a hard time handling. The poor girl keep's laying her egg's though.

BTW I rescued 4 bantams about a week ago. Long story,,, but here they are. I did not integrate them into my existing flock yet. Housed separately for now still. The small black one next to the white chicken in the middle is hard to see. She is hatched middle of April this year. The others are older,, and lay regularly,, but not daily.

I spotted the black one. Although I don't do any bantam's this red Lakeshore Egger hen that's having that heat problem is a little smaller then my Bielefelder pullet's. I hatched her out last year towards the end of May.

So I have a pen with 3 roosters (almost a year old) in it. I used to have to just clean the waterer and fill feeder almost after dark (and it gets later and later) just to avoid thier antics or possibly have them escape.

A couple weeks ago I realized I could reach their pen if I stretched the sprayer hose from inside the greenhouse. NOW I can do that maintenance ANYTIME by using water to keep them away from the gate and they're distracted enough to not do their antics in my vicinity. Also gives them a different feel to the sprayed down pen so they have "new" things to scratch in.

I know this is probably no big idea for experienced chicken keepers but maybe some may find it helpful in maintaining your flocks.
