I haven't tried these and wonder if it will hold up if mice are messing with the cord over winter.

Silicone? In general when I use silicone in baking, it holds the smell/flavor, so maybe you could spray some essential oil/water mix as a repellant? Rosemary, oregano, mint, cedar? That's the combo I have handy at home anyway.I just got more heated dog bowls last week to avoid the rush and be ready for freeze. I don't think we'll get that cold here near Prescott yet even on Sunday when cold rolls in.
We use the heated dog bowls for the winter for the chickens if it gets that cold for a few months. They are only $30 each instead of $50+ for heated chicken waterers. I need 10 --
have 6 (last year for $20 each) and
bought 5 last week for $30 each.
I saw silicone heating pads online for metal chicken waterers 2 for ~$20, but I don't have metal waterers. I haven't tried these and wonder if it will hold up if mice are messing with the cord over winter.
Everything is getting so expensive, and some people around here have been saying that it's going to get worce after the election's. I hurried up and got my Pajama Jean's order in and got them delivered already before the Holiday rush and delivery problem's set in. So, I'm mostly all set on my nessesaties to help carry me through already.I went to Olsen's Feed to get Olsen's All Purpose Poultry feed - they were out - he's supposed to run the mill on Wednesday so I'll call before I go - and then stock up. They had Purina Flock Raiser - I only got one bag since $30 with tax . And he loaded a couple bales straw ($12 ea) that cashier didn't know they had - so did a loop to pay and give him loading ticket afterwards. I love hometown feed store that trusts you like that.
Getting ready in case it snows this week near Prescott.

Yes that's why only 1 bag - and I am raising juveniles so wanted flock raiser especially for them. I used to use it for everyone (sometimes cut with other feed), but not now.Wow that’s a lot for a bag of Purina.
Did you make any of those feed bucket's yet? I really love mine, because less feed has been wasted so it's lasting them longer.Yes that's why only 1 bag - and I am raising juveniles so wanted flock raiser especially for them. I'm waiting for Olsen's to mill their own brand All Purpose Poultry and will get 5+ bags to fill ALL my feed cans to hedge against low stock/high price over winter. We'll go thru that in about 6+ weeks.
