Arizona Chickens

Here's my latest treasure. It holds 1488 (quail) eggs. I have the chicken racks for it too. I'm hoping to runs some eggs thru it next week. I'm very very excited about it. Its much bigger than I thought it was. I took the picture before I finished cleaning it up. Its all spiffy clean and has no stinky smells.

Ha! See; MATH!

Ok, reading that just hurts (though very funny). I am jumping back into Calculus after not touching any math (in a school setting) for 10 years.

What was I thinking???

Oh gosh. I gave up. I just trimmed each ones left wing and put them out in the yard for an hour. The cat was all excited until they ignored him. Now he (hunter-of-the-universe) is just laying around with a question mark hanging over his head. Ha! Showed HIM didn't we! The dog, as usual, behaved herself like a lady. Shes only interested if they have food she can scrounge.

YAY!!!! Thank you so much! Here is the list I give people on this side of regularly needed donations:
rice
beans
toilet paper
tomato sauce
canned soup
boullion cubes
sugar
salt
canned corn
ramen noodles
canned green beans
potatoes
flour
evaporated milk
napkins
toothpaste
shampoo
soap
dish soap
These items usually go to either the Kids' Cafe (soup kitchen) or to the families that work and give all of their time to the kids and the drug rehab center. It's pretty hard for these men and women to serve others when they are putting their own kids to bed hungry every night.

Another thing that is very popular there is craft projects, even very simple ones. I am taking something down tomorrow. Things are just so different there. Weekends are hard for the kids. A lot of times, the dad has spent all of the money (which was barely anything to begin with). On weekends, the kids often don't eat and they don't get to just be kids. Even coloring pages and crayons are such a blessing to them. It's so special to have a few minutes to just be a kid. Making individual craft kits or collecting crayons would make a good project for girl scouts.

We are also working on building and stocking a library down there. These people have NO books in their homes. It's hard for an American to imagine that. Finding good Spanish books has been a challenge for me, too. If you live in a bigger city, it might be easier to find used books in Spanish. BTW, this library vision came about after one of my visits down there. I bring all sors of things all the time. I bring clothes, food, baby items, home decor items, school supplies, you name it. One time, I brought a box of books. The lady that runs the Kids' Cafe picked up the copy of Pilgrim's Progress and hugged it and started crying. It seems books is another treasure that I have taken for granted.

I wish my dog knew how to behave. She thought she would chase some mutt roosters we have running around and she got beat up. But was back at it homing she'd have chicken for dinner.

I just found out that Moms get FREE amazon.com Prime accounts. That means free 2 day shipping! Hooray!

Plus, it qualifies you for 30% off diapers and wipes (you just have to subscribe so they can delivery them every few months, but you can cancel the subscription after the first one ships - you just click unsubscribe).

I just bought Earth's Best diapers for the same that I usually spent on the Target brand. Yay!

Why is it that any time I mention disposable diapers, I feel the need to point out that we used cloth ones for the first year and a half?

Mahonri -I'm super jealous of your garden! What did you plant?

5pinkarrows - awesome. I'll definitely hang onto the clothes until you are in or around Tucson

Do these Kids go to public school of any sort? I have a lot of printables I'm printed when I had a membership to a homeschool curriculum site and I have bunches left over I could send you and some crayons and pencils. I wish you were closer. Ramen noodles arre on sale for 12¢ a pack! I also have bunches of baby clothes too. Id have to make a day of it and sort things out.
