Arizona Chickens

Has anyone heard from @BlueBaby lately? She's usually so very active on this forum and with her Bielefelders. I'm just hoping she's ok.
I'm ok, just alot has been happening over here. Hubby had another back operation, then we had to put our 13 years old dog Buster down.

Then last month we adopted a new 3 year old female spayed dog from one of the shelters. Her name was Petunia, but we renamed her Serene. She has allergies, and found out when we took her to our vet that she has an eye and ear infection, so we are treating her for that. At least her ribs aren't showing so much anymore. She had the zoomies when I took her outside this morning, so maybe she's starting to feel better.

I did manage to get the misters up in the chicken run. I've also been dealing with 3 hen's that went broody, but I'm not letting them do a hatch.

This is Serene. She's an American Staffy mix.

Glad to hear from you!
Sounds like you've indeed had your hands full.

We also had to put one of our dogs down this past year. Our remaining dog (Newfoundland/lab mix) is about 12ish, so we know that day is coming for him as well.
Serene is a nice name. She will be well-cared for.

This heat will keep us busier than usual looking after our chickens.

The name Serene fits her as she's normally a mello dog, and just wanted to catch up on all the sleep that she must have missed while in the shelter. It was pretty full there, and there were so many dog's constantly barking. She has a lifetime home now, complete with the belly rubs that she loves.

Yes, the heat will keep us busy with the chicken's, and it's still only June.

That seems awfully young. I know people who have chickens who are 6-10 years old. Some of them still lay an egg now and then. If I remember correctly, they are Ameraucanas and minorcas. They came from a local feed store so I don't know who the specific breeders are.

You might look for heritage vs. hybrid breeds. There's an article on that here.
