Arizona Chickens

Looks like there's another storm coming in on Sunday. Our coop was damaged in last Saturday's storm. The chickens are in a temporary pen while I'm working on repairs. We don't free-range.

The temporary pen is covered and secure but it's more exposed than their usual coop. It's possible some rain could blow into the pen if the storm is violent enough.

If the chickens get wet inside their covered pen is it a problem?

Just try your best. :thumbsup A little rain should not harm them.. It is too warm for hypothermia.
How much repairs are needed on the coop?? Post some pix, so we can offer advice if possible. :hugs

They may not even get upset with the rain if it’s not a gully washer

Some rain got here a little early. It wasn't heavy and the flock is fine in the temporary pen. I think they're happy with just about anything as long as they have frozen blueberries. 😄

If anyone else is dealing with lots of flies I'd like to give this company a plug. The fly predators arrived quickly and hatched in a few days. Reduced our fly problem by about 80% with one application.

Thanks for this info! That storm looks formidable!

Sunday's rain fizzled out so that was all the rain we got over the weekend. The storms brought crab grass back to our backyard o' dirt and also something that looks like clover. It has leaves that are green on top and purple underneath. I've never seen it before but the chickens love it. Since they can't free-range I've been picking the crab grass and clover for them and stuffing it in the suet cages. The chickens go nuts over it. It's free and they're happy so I'm happy. :D

On a side note: I grow wheat grass for our dogs and chickens. It thrives in containers on our kitchen windowsill and I typically get 4 or 5 clippings per batch.

Lately I've had a terrible time trying get wheat berries to germinate. I don't know if it has something to do with the heat and the weather or I just unluckily got several bad batches from Amazon. Is anyone else struggling to sprout wheat berries right now?

I sprouted some for bread last week and they did ok. I bought these from Amazon
