Arizona Chickens

TT! :

I just got home from picking up a carton of Aloha Project Eggs from LareePQG! She has the coolest house and her kids are adorable (even the crabby one).

HA! Her kids crack me up.

I am inspired, but it will take me a few weeks to have time to build one, plus I have to come up with a sheltie modification. I had no idea what I was getting into with this dog, who found me (really, dumped at a park by the owner, long story). I adore him, but what a handful!

So sorry about your apples, that is a rotten loss.

I use to crochet, but don't sit down long enough anymore to do it and it was clearly more fun when we lived in Washington and it was always cold. Made blankets and even the kids would take turns sitting under them while crouching.

Now I sew, I love making little dresses that are the envy of all my friends. I like making boys clothing but not as much as I love making little girl outfits. I also do scrap-booking and sometimes make cards. It's hard for me to find the time for any hobbies as I home school the children, I garden, raise eggs, and have a marriage ministry. Time, time.. wish there was more of it.

That is what I imagine my "americauna" is ... I'll have to see as she grows ... it doesn't really bother me either, except like you I would prefer to get what I think I'm getting. Also it would be nice to be able to predict what she will look like later other than just "a chicken". She is a super sweet chick and I'm sure she will be beautiful because as I have been researching I've seen a lot of really beautiful EEs. I read on here about the feed stores and americaunas under their breed thread. Mine is from Ideal Hatchery ... I called and asked which hatchery they order from, but can't really find if theirs are usually really the real thing or EE. Typing without contacts, hope not too many typos! So it also makes you wonder if most of the people on Craigslist who are selling "pure americaunas" are really selling EEs and don't know the difference. I mean if I ordered "americaunas" from a hatchery and started breeding them / raising chicks, that's what I would expect them to be and I'm sure I would advertise them as pure until someone educated me. Since we won't have a roo until we get an acre (probably 5 years) ... it isn't an issue. We just want yummy eggs, and beautiful healthy chickens. Blue eggs would be super fun too.

Oh, it's too funny. My son has been carrying Evie (RIR) around on his shoulder like a parrot - LOL!

I have a 3 year old feed store "ameraucana" who is lovely (not a recognized color), and one of our sweetest and smartest birds. Plus she lays FABULOUS eggs, with huge perky dark yolks, and always rock-hard shells. When we got the pullets, the feed store was where our friends had gotten birds, so we did too. They have been good pets that give us breakfast, which is still a treat

I love to sew, I just don't have much time. I wish I did. Id love to take a couple hours a week to sew. I want to make sun dresses. I have a half finished wagon cover.

Since you mentioned it and I noticed it myself yesterday, our EE eggs are sometimes smaller than others, but the yolks are enormous!! They're often bigger than a yolk that came out of a bigger egg.

Same here NoSkiveez, I hate to get started and just get into it and have to stop because I have to run here or there or get the door, or break up a fight, etc. I wish I could just have two hours a day to sew, but then I would have to give up some of my sleep. I started on Cora's summer wardrobe in December and have only three summer outfits completed,

I don't think its entirely the feed stores fault. They are buying from Hatcheries. The Hatcheries are selling EE as Americanas. They really don't know all that much. I had a family come buy some EE's I had and they had been looking at feed store chicks (Wyandottes) and the guy told them they are "better" than Americanas (EE) because Wyandottes lay 3 or 4 eggs a day per bird. I do believe Hatcheries are aware what they are selling is not what they are saying it is, but I doubt people working at the feed store always know it.
