Regarding the Chandler Chicken Ordinance change.

I think (not personally, just trying to clarify) this is an improvement. It says that anyone can NOW have chickens no matter their lot size where as before you had to have a certain size considering their enclosure had to be 200 feet away from the nearest residence. 200 feet is a lot bigger than normal "track home" backyards. They limit the chicken count to five with this proposed change, but I don't know what the limit is now for those that meet the above distance requirement. So it sounds like they are making everyone able to have chickens but perhaps limiting those that already have chickens to only five.

I'm not in Chandler, but I'm sure there are people who have more than 5. Would they have to downsize their flock??

I am not sure if those that are allowed to have chickens now under the current ordinance would be effected by this new one. perhaps it is only an amendment to allow those that couldn't before to now allow them. There are people in Chandler now that aren't supposed to have them at all due to the current ordinance in effect. If the proposed ordinance was passed then they could have their five without having to worry about their neighbors reporting them. I'm not in Chandler either for disclosure in case anyone reads this outside of my post.

Hi all,
I don't post much, but read everything
I live in Tucson and teach 1st grade.  I was hoping to hatch out some chicks in my classroom this spring.  Would anyone have an incubator that I could borrow long enough to hatch some chicks?  And of course a couple of fertile eggs would help
 We have a little roo (serema mix kinda guy) and we would have a few to hatch but would like some regular size guys too.

What do you all think he's mixed with? Kev said it's probably an English Splash Orpington or a CC Marans, or possibly Black Copper Marans. I sent him a picture, too. It's not crucial, I'm just curious, that's all! I don't know if it's even possible to tell.

Like I have said before, to bad a vet couldn't come up with a de-crowing surgery.. We would all have roosters! Beautiful boy..

There is a de-crowing procedure, but I think the mortality rate is high. This guy doesn't crow much and we put him in the garage at night so he doesn't bother anyone early morning. My neighbors are also very friendly and tolerant. A lot of them say they actually LIKE it when he crows. But when I do hear him, someone (usually me) goes out and quiets him.

I have 4 people with one asking for 1.5 dozen to 2 dozen a month.

3 people: Math: 2 eggs, 5 times a weel = 30 eggs a week = 120 eggs a month = + 2 = 12 dozen eggs I should be able to met our requirements. With extra for cooking .... Custards, cakes, meatloaf . . . . . An easy 14 or 15 dozen eggs.

I have 8 girls, if all were laying I can expect on average 5 to 6 eggs a day each at best
Math: (max) 48 eggs wk = 144 a month or 12 dozen. Ideally but do not plan on it.

5 chickens will not get it. What about the Silkies? If you have a retired chicken that is only a pet, then what.

I dislike it but I understand noisy chickens, can be as bad as roos. Regulations are good, mostly if they are common sence. It is a shocker, but not everyone has been blessed with common sence. If a chicken fancier is respectful of others that is what is important.

Raising some broad breasted turkeys this year. Meet Drumstick, Giblet, "white" Wings and Gravy. They will have a fun and loving life up till Nov. I try not to get attached but I will! I keep hoping for my beautiful Blue Bell to lay eggs. She has bred to Banner 4 times that I know of in the last month but nothing yet. Love to see her raise some turklets!

Wow, I love those Turkeys. A friend of mine from work is getting me a couple of Rio Grandes. I wanted the same as you with a good Nov. dinner, but the wifey said no, we will try to breed instead. Nothing like jumping in with both feet when starting out. Luckily I have a good support system here at work and around the Neighborhood.

There is a vet here in Arizona who allegedly does this new procedure for $300. I was just reading about a vet he trained to do it in the Mid-West, Oklahoma I believe. They have various hand made tools for it and are said to have only a 10% mortality rate. The crow is supposed to be significantly quieter, although he didn't have actual numbers yet.
