This what it is looking like now, Thurs, Fri, and Sat, I hope to be able to be at the fair a few hours. I have family coming in also. What I will have is feed quality greens. I could meet at the fair grounds parking lot. I have to pull it today. I can put the roots in water, that should keep most of it alive or fresh.

We came home to a much larger egg than normal today. We normally average between 55 and 59 grams from our Barred Rocks. Our first abnormally large egg last month was 68 grams, but our one today was a massive 79 grams. Yeesh, that's gotta hurt.

I can't wait until mine start getting bigger - they are all still laying on the smaller side, except for the duck eggs!

What do they have at the fair? Is it just auctions or is there displays and vendors and such? Wondering if its worth the drive.

This is what I have right now. 1 wheel barrel and 2 large crates.

And my lovely garden..... Starting over... That is what a garden is all about.

I should have lettuce food for people. It is moving from tasty to strong and some of the leaves are getting tuff but it is still good. I used NO poisons on my garden. The only thing that needs to be washed off is living things for us, protein for animals. I really hate to see it wasted, animals (goats and chickens would love it).

* As I was coming home, my neighbor had a container of Quail Eggs. Not sure but theyre a lil stinky. Do I dare try to put em under a heat lamp?¿ *

As it would be Loraine has gone broody. I just went out back to add some new bedding to a
nest.. Low and be hold there she is still in one of the coziest spots..
Guess who will have babie chicks in about 20 days

So any of you out there want to have your own babies, just hatch some in a incubator.
Then one of your hen's will go broody..

There is nothing like hand raising them. They are just so much more adorable, docile and
you can teach them special words like bugs & treat.. What other words schould we teach them?

"Here, kitty, kitty!"
To come when you whistle
"Up" to hop up on your arm or lap (pick one or the other, or add a second command and do both)
"Off" or "Shoo" to get them out from in front of you (probably a lot harder to teach)

I am cleaning out my garden beds for summer planting. I am very late at getting my crop in. If anyone is interested in green stuff for your chickens or goats PM me.
What I will be pulling out is 25' Broccoli, 18' Brussels Sprouts, the last of my collards, about 5' of kale, 3' of broccoli rob, and 3' I arugula. I hate to through it out and I only have so much room in my freezer to give to my girls. I have some drying, right now storing is a problem.

I am in the North West Valley near Peoria and 99th Avenue.

Is there a Farmer's Market near you that you could sell it at? That is a LOT of veggies! BTW, what is broccoli rob?

An update from down here at the border. The wind party earlier this week has left my coop in pieces. Soooo, this weekend will be used to rehash the coop back together and hopefully get some headway on the run. Ya know, hardware cloth is like making a down payment on a new car. Stuff is expensive. My chicks are doing great, too great. They have learned to fly and eat everything that is given. Almost time for another move. I currently placed them in a broken ole igloo with their feeders and light . How do you guys feel about screening in the opening of the coop and using that as their "box" for awhile. The weather is finally mellowing out and keeping them inside is getting stinky and loud. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

All kinds of everything is on display...auctions are Friday Friday night for Small Stock and Saturday morning for livestock. Smallstock includes poultry, rabbits and cavies, miniature/pygmy goats. Livestock includes cattle, sheep goats and who knows what else...

There is also a silent auction for FFA welding and woodworking projects--usually includes some pretty awesome stuff. There was a really nice chicken coop a couple or three years ago.

I accidentally started a new thread, but meant to post this here:

In about 2 weeks, I'll be ready for some chicks. I'm looking for bantams in Rhode Island reds, barred rocks, easter eggers, silkies and frizzles. Anyone have any chicks of those bantam breeds in the Tucson area?

I do plan on going to the Pima County Fair next weekend to perhaps talk to real-life chicken people, but I'm sending out feelers now.
