Arizona Chickens

Wanted: Someone to TAKE MY SULTAN ROO!

He hatched Nov. 13th and he has a shrill loud crow.

He will be taken to Pratt's on Friday, but I hope he can have a little flock of his own, he is a pretty little thing, (except for where he was picked on his back by some of the big hens) he still thinks he's cock of the walk but too loud for my neighborhood.

Oh and he's FREE!  And if you take him today, I'll give you a Silver Laced Polish Hen for the bother!

Have you joined Arizona Backyard Farmer on Facebook? Found a home for my BBS Orp through them. Worth a try.

Welcome to Arizona Backyard Farmer

They are gorgeous. I am happy to see that Fonzie is getting his hackles in. Fabio is so handsome. They both are looking good. Thanks for sharing.

Yes they are doing great. They have absolutely been loving all this free ranging around my yard. I've got one little area where I don't do and weeding. They love this area and do a great job of keeping the weeds down. And I'm soooo happy about finally getting eggs!

We use a plastic cup with scratch if needed. They come to the sound of the shaking and us saying "here, chick, chick". Or just find their favorite treat and a way to for them to know that's what you have - same container, same sound, etc.

Well, we have 3, 1 standard EE and 2 silkie roos. They play off of each other, unfortunately.

So, far, we've been able to curb any beginnings of aggression. The ornery one is one of the silkie roos. We have 3 roosters to 18 hens. The only fighting we've seen is some scuffles between the 2 silkies but the big EE breaks them up. I would use fresh eggs for bribery but he already gets them from his mother-in-law who has a bunch of chickens. He just doesn't want to live by any himself.

He has agreed to let us try putting up a privacy fence on just one side of property - his side - to see if it helps to muffle the sound. Then, we'll go from there I guess... I wish I made enough money to sell this place and get a new house somewhere else! When we talked, he did start out mad, using choice words, but I just kept my cool and stayed sweet and he mellowed out. He agreeable to wait long enough for us to try some other options before having to get rid of them -  only because he has daughters too and he realizes how upset my daughter is, about possibly having to give them away.

Oh great!! Keeping cool is hard.. I have to give you credit girl.. Hey have you thought of putting up moraniga trees?
They grow fast and you can harvest the leaves for your flock? It is full of nutrition.. I will post a link.. We had two, both did
not make it..

If anyone has seeds please PM us we would love to have some..

I don't know what those trees are... do they grow up north or only in southern AZ?

Finally got a bale of hay for the new repaired coop. Thanks to my dad for helping toughing the coop up. Ofcourse the wind picked up again. Drats. I will be leaving the lil women in the coop for the time being so they can have more room to stretch out. As their feathers fill out and they mature, I should have the run the way I want it and they can scratch around and do what chickens do. Thanks for the help guy and gals.

Started the pens at the school! So excited to fill them with birds
