Arizona Chickens

WAY FUN!  Chicken cam!  Very cool!  Now I have something else to waste time with at work, LOL.    She is very pretty, she seems like a good mum too.

Hopefully you missed it when I went out there to move things around and do some modifications to the fence.  My dress blew up and my undies were exposed, no problem had the cam not been going.  Then the bucket which the cam is attatched blew over and the camera was facing straight up my skirt.  Oh gee.  What woman does animal care in a dress anyway?  Well this one.  Now I can see why my greatgrandmother always wore dresses.  Even when plowing up her huge garden.

My nephew has a link to my Cox Security cam at my house. I ran out into the back to get my phone, I only had my undies on, it was my nephew, at the end of the conversation he told me he was watching my backyard cam. No one is safe. My mom has drop cam in her bedroom, all the family members have access.

LOL!! No, I missed that part, too funny!!

Hi all. I'm new from Scottsdale. We just got 4 chicks that are about a week old. We did research and didn't find any laws about chickens in Scottsdale besides the ordinance listed on BYC stating we could have any number of hens and no roosters. Unfortunately the best spot for our coop and run are along the 6ft block wall that borders our neighbor. Hopefully we won't have any issues with those neighbors. We butt up against Thunderbird Rd so there's always a bit of road noise and if they can deal with that hopefully a few chicken clucks won't be too bad.

We got a Black Sex Link, a RIR, a Welsummer and an EE. We probably shouldn't have named them yet but their names are Onyxia, Phillie, Tea and Eleanore. Currently they're in a brooder box in the garage and doing well. We're in the process of converting our resin shed into a coop. We're adding more windows with screens for the hot summer and adding all the other necessities. Now we're just praying all 4 chicks are definitely girls. They were all sexed at the hatchery according to the feed store which seemed knowledgeable and well established since the 60s but we had a friend order from "my pet chicken" and out of the 12 females he ordered one was a male. Since the Black Star is definitely a female we really only have to worry about the other 3, I guess.

Well I just wanted to introduce myself. I'd love to be in contact with any other chicken owners in Scottsdale. Would be nice to know your experiences. Nice to meet you, to all the Arizonans.

Welcome!!

Partridge, my wife's Silkie, has decided to start trying to mate recently. The problem with this picture is that our half-baked pullets are bigger than he is, not to mention our three laying hens being double his size. Needless to say, I think he was one frustrated little boy tonight!

It did make for some comic relief, though. He would try to sneak up on them and then grab their tail feathers to keep them from running. It was like a toddler walking a Golden Retriever. They would just drag his *** across the yard until he let go! Every time I tried to get video, they would all come charging at the door expecting food, though.

I don't think we need to worry about fertile eggs from him, especially since Splash, the other Silkie, isn't laying yet.

our 1 pound Serama roo jumps on the back of our full size New Hampshire....she then runs panicked around the yard, with him standing on her back the whole time! I hope sometime to get a picture!!

My new girls/boys.
700

I haven't named any of them yet. The Red Sex Link and the Partridge Barred Rock are pullets, therefore I can name them. The three Good Shepherd Barred Rocks I have to wait and see. I am keeping a pullet, the others I will have to sell, I so hope I can find a good home for them. I am starting to have a favorite twice I recognized her from the other two. :fl that it is a her. It will be easier to find a good home if they are all pullets.

I made a 3'x3'x2'h wooden pen for the girls with a make shift cover. It hopefully will work until they can go out side in the old digs. By then I hope to have the new diggs finished.

I have been working at my coop/chicken yard. I am painting the inside with an enamel paint that matches my house, I do not think my girls have an opinion. I want it durable so I can wash the interior if need be. I am thinking of not if but when for needing to disinfect the coop. I am glad to say I believe I do not need to put a wire tried down for digging coyotes. After 4" I have to use a chisel and hammer a 1/2"-1" at a time. It is going to take some time. I am going down almost a foot.

You may be surprised some day. A friend of mine in Florida had a dog 1/2 Chihuahua and 1/2 black lab. The Chihuahua was the male the Lab was the female. They were great friends as next door neighbors, they only bread her once a year. That years they decided to keep her home and locked up in the Florida room when they were gone. A storm had damaged one corner that he, the owner, had patched, there was a small gap, just big enough. . . . They thought it was so quite to see them sleeping next to each other. They had no idea she was pregnant, until she had very little strange puppy's. :lau They saw her making a nest, false pregnancy. NOT!

They had all the puppy's spade or neutered before adoption. Picture a small Lab with a Chihuahua's ears and mussel and a forehead that was nether quite one or the other. :gig very od.

The eggs in our class started to hatch. The kids were so excited.
Hard to get pictures unless they are sleeping:)
This was the first one hatched on Tuesday right after school.

Doing another shout-out for FREE hatching eggs . . . I have some eggs here that are getting old, the oldest are about 2 weeks old and there are some that are one week old.

This is what you might get out of them:

Swedish Flower Crosses!!!

I just set about 200 eggs the other day, and I can't hold any more chicks in my brooder, even though there is more room in the giant cabinet 'bator. I don't want to eat them, and I have been selling quite a few hatching eggs, but I don't want to sell someone my OLD eggs, I'll give them fresh if someone is going to pay.

Okay, so the hatch rate is going to be less than stellar, but c'mon, they're FREE. I think there are 2-3 dozen? Not sure exactly, because I am totally out of egg cartons right now so they are in a big bowl. LOL! I'm in the SW Phoenix area - quick and easy drive from anywhere! (Except Apache Junction and Queen Creek. It's an easy drive from there but definately not quick.)

These need to go into a 'bator ASAP so drop a line if you want them! :)
