Arizona Chickens

so, i either have a very confused hen that is at POL, she squats, looks like a hen, has hen feathers BUT CROWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or i am just plum stupid and it's a darn roo that looks like a girl. it is an english orpington, blue, absolutely beautiful but has been making a hideous noise that even i can't figure out. all i know is that i cannot have anything crowing in my yard. no one else in my menagerie is making this sound, she did this ALL DAY today. anyone want her?

Pastrymama - just out of curiosity, would you get a video of her/him?
I think she/he would be great to see/hear.
yup, i got one today of "Fattie". it's on my phone so i'll have to download it tomorrow when the fireman is home. i dunno how to do that

My buff Orpington's comb gives me options she may mp be mixed with. It is a rosé or a cushion, BO have a single comb. Her eggs are a lighter brown then Lucy my RIR.
700
so her eggs are no help. Not enough different to really tell anything so it is meaningless. Can't be more then 100 breads with a rose or cushion bomb :lau

I have 3 blue eggers, they are easy.
700
the lightest of light blues is Clare (3 eggs), the more olive then blue in Vony (5 eggs), and the blue aqua is Powder (1egg).
I thought that Voney had stopped laying... Wrong. She is still laying. She is pretty low on the picking order. I will have to watch more closely, someone has pulled her feathers. My two heavy weights are very protective over goodies, it may be one of them.

Does anyone want to share a shipment of turkeys? Perhaps from Porter Turkeys? Minimum shipment is 15 and I only want two to four. I was thinking the "Breeder's Choice" box at $9.00 per poult. It is 15 of any of the following: Bronze, Narragansett, White Holland, Black, Slate, Bourbon Red or Royal Palm.

Message me if interested. From what I can tell, it's not too late for a Thanksgiving Turkey if we act quick.

just got back home about a hour ago. Busy day. Went earlier today to Vaquero Feed in Tucson and finally hooked up my Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas. I got 2 pullets (hens) and was soooo tempted to get the rooster. SO PRETTY. But the wifey would kill me. Anywho, I let the kids swim in my mothers' pool for a few hours as payment for dragging them to Tucson. Furry and Fluffy (original names indeed) stayed in the guest bathroom so they could stretch their legs and cool off in my mom's house. Boy can those birds fly. They don't really peck, but they sure were runners and flyers. My mom's house is pretty big and chasing those girls around really gets tiring. lol. When we got back home, the birds were dusted with DE and put in the run to "socialize". The usual birds were doing the peck and pull feather thing but a few swats sent the pack scattering and the amers stayed close to the kids while they adjusted. I want to give a shout out to Kathy who happens to work over there in Vaquero and who supplied the birds from her own stock. She did an excellent job on these birds and I really hope to do more with her. I also would say that Vaquero Feed is in a weird place at the moment. The store is stuck in Tucson's notorious construction and it is a little difficult to reach. But the store is clean, easy to locate merch and the staff (including Kathy) were soo helpful. I was able to get my 1st. 50 pound bag of Manna feed at a ridiculously low price. Outstanding day today.

When I went out to check on the chickens this afternoon, there were 2 more chicks under the broody, for a total of three. Not too bad for a first time broody. Now we wait and see if any of them are girls.

Is this who you were referring to Noel?
yup, that's her. i threw it up on FB, votes say she is a crowing hen or has gapeworm. i treated her with fenbendazole late last night, but i really doubt that she has that. no one else is making that noise or shaking their heads, she is not shaking her head at all.
