No, they are not clogged. I just replaced them all with brand new ones.
I checked out the link for the superfine misters. Did you get the special adapters? Too much pressure, not enough pressure?

Ok, my older girls are "presenting" themselves when you pet them, from what I read that usually means they are ready to lay. But I have not received one egg yet....they have food, water, oystershell, a nice coop and run, they get some free ranging time usually daily, some frozen two liters to rest on when it gets really hot...plenty of shade....treats.....ohh a mister system I installed yesterday (boy does that help!).
Also I'm gonna do some landscaping around the coop and got some nasturtium and grass to grow around the coop, am I too late to try to start growing those? Should I wait until October when it starts to cool off again? Does anybody grow anything inside their runs so it doesn't look like the dust bowl? If so how do you keep the chickens from destroying it??
Thanks in advance!!
They are around 18-20 weeks old, I can't remember exactly when I got them, I think it was near the end of January? I thought about grape vines, but couldn't find any at Home Depot or Lowes, gonna have to hit the nursery's near by to see what they have. I'm gonna get the nasturtium planted this week and try the grass seed as well. So do you do deep litter in the run as well? What do you use pine or sand or something else? Mine is just dirt, the girls don't seem to mind because they can dig anywhere for a dust bath, they do have two spots that are favs though. I peeked in on them the other night after dark and is it weird for the older girls to let the younger ones roost higher than them? I thought with the pecking order and what not the older ones would be at the top.....Mine did the squatting for several weeks before I got my first egg... how old are they now? They might be a little slow due to the heat too...
I planted some nasturtium around the run pretty recently. Grass I don't know about... I think as long as you keep it moist, it should grow. I also planted grape vines around my run (on the outside) so they will grow up the sides of the run and provide both tasty snacks and shade. You could plant some comfrey, lavendar, mint, things like that around too - good herbs for you and the girls. I don't plant anything directly in the run, but you could if you put wire around it until it gets big enough to handle them eating at it. I have a peach tree that died and came back into a "peach bush" - since it will never bear fruit, I built the duck pen around the peach bush. They eat the leaves they can reach but it's already too tall to reach anymore and I keep it just the right size to not outgrow the pen, but provide shade for them.
As for a dust bowl, I use the deep litter method, so there's really no dust at all.
itsredcandy raises quailI haven't been on here for ages! My hens are doing very well, with a few broodies that we have allowed to raise babies! My friend is wanting to raise backyard quail. I know there is a quail forum which I have pointed her to. Just wondering if we have any local AZ quail people that I could get her in touch with?

they are laying again. I got 3 eggs one large. Still do not know who has the large brown. I get about 2 or 3 a week. Picker, black sex link, a big heavy girl spent about 2 hrs in a nesting box, but no egg? She dose that a lot. I wonder if she is having problems. I didn't feel a lump, doesn't act egg bond. And a bonus at lest one used the new coop last night.![]()
