Arizona Chickens

I would love a honey do list, unfortunately, you have to have a honey to do. It has been so long, for about 15 years I was off the market, taking care of mother, talking care of adult daughter and grand kids. . . . Now, I do not want to take care of any one, let a lone a uselessman. Now a honey do man, that is different. Spoiling a man like that would be worth in investment. I treat my men like dogs, and you know how dogs are treated to day. Back massages, home made pasta, a few treats, take him for walks, a little honey

, and a now and then let him out with the boys to play.

My last I couldn't get rid of

, until his new girlfriend came cover and threatened me (6' & 280-300#), the ordered him back in the van, she would deal with him (6'2" & 185#) later she said.

I still get a smile when I think of it.

This may not be the place to ask but does anyone know how big of a brooder I would need for 12 chicks until they are four weeks old ,If possible measurements in cm and or mm

I raised 10 in a water heater box.

someone was looking for silkie chicks? I have a few that are almost 2 weeks old, I think white and splash. very nice chicks, from Sleepy Hollow Farm in VA.

also have some sulmtalers from Widget Creek Ranch right here in AZ! super cute and hardy little chicks, about 4 weeks or so.

11 eggs in 10 days. The last one is a good size.
The girls are always under the coop, dug into the sand during the day. I'm going to redo my mister system this weekend. I'm gonna hard pipe it to my outside water line and run PVC underground into the run.

While brewing this weekend, I watched the run and I see that it doesn't get any direct sun on the ground at all until about 2pm. Between 2 and 6 the sun gradually overtakes most of the ground almost to the coop itself. I did a good job on the shading, now a little cooling will help.

Thanks for the compliments on my brew. It's quite tasty.

I forgot how much I liked old Springsteen.

Sad night over here!! Just got finished with cleaning up my first loss of life this summer. I was woken by the screeching of babies so i ran outside as fast as i could to find that a king snake had somehow managed to climb up into the brooder and kill two babies. He was working on his 3rd but i soon made him realize whats thirds really meant!! The chick he had in his mouth is alive and well but the others arent. My mom probably thinks im going to become a physcopathic murderer because of the blood bath that ensued. I never expected to have snakes not only in a suburban place but then have them get be able to get my chicks.

Found another egg this morning. It was right by the chicken door to the coop. Very thin shelled (to the point it was soft shelled) and it was cracked. Bummer. The girls have all the calcium they could want.

I doubt it's a reflection of what you're feeding them. My husband was raised on a dairy in Wisconsin and they had chickens. He said normally right when chickens first start laying the eggs will often be oddly shaped and/or thin-shelled. The fact that you haven't had more thin-shells is probably a testament to what you are feeding them rather than a criticism. But it's just their bodies getting used to laying. Congrats on all the eggs!!

Don't stress the thin egg. Sometimes, it just happens. From my reading recently, it appears that it occurs more often during summer, where they are all hotter. The temperatures have added enough extra stress to their poor little bodies that things just don't come out right sometimes. I've had my first two soft-shelled eggs this month as well, and my girls are all fed very well, too.

How many hens versus eggs do you have every day? The last week, I've been getting a single egg out of my two layers, except yesterday. The hen we had to break of being broody hasn't started laying again, so we're down that egg as well. It's been my lowest collection week since our girls started laying.
