Arizona Chickens

Now I'm not down there with your 120 degree heat and If I was aI would probably do things a little different but so far egg production is holding steady, while everyone is panting no body has dropped dead. It's been 102-106 up here. I give as much shade as I can fix up (need more tho) and go out and wet the runs down, either before I leave for work or in mid afternoon if I"m home then. I fill some shallow pans for them to stand in; only once have a seen a girl lay down in the water. I soak their dusting spots so they have cool dirt to lay in. No ice bottles, no fans, no misters.

I want my birds to adapt to the climate without too much mechanical aid, because what happens if you aren't home and that fan or mister system breaks down and they are dependent on it.

I found Murphy in the chicken "pool". Silly boy.

Ok, so before I yell at my daughters, again, for playing with the rocks and twigs, then leaving them in the grassy yard... It seems to have gotten worse the more we added our chickens...

Do any of your chickens play with landscaping rocks and/or small twigs? It almost seems like the twigs are being purposefully put in the bare spots of my lawn. I haven't seen any of them doing it, but man, it's frustrating. I use an old rotary mower, so they catch in the blades and the entire thing jerks to a stop. I had to pick up thd yard before mowing.

I've had my surgery, and boy have things changed in 25-30 years. In and out, after all the prep, paper work, introductions, wheeled in, hooked up, and out. Operation less then 10 minutes. After I woke up, not groggy or feeling just plain yucky, no headach. Hand was numb, small figer still a little numb. You can move your figures and actually use your and. I need to keep hand above heart and such, SOP. I did take a half of pain pill more for the waring off of the pain block stuff they used, and that discomfort/pain. It is fantastic compared to the first time.

I tool care od my girls this morning, when I got home I have checked on then several times. Boy do I mess them, I have to move a chair out there so I can spend more time with them. I'm not sure but I think they miss me to, or wishfull thinking. They all get really excited if I have something in my hand, but when I do not have anything they all wonder over to be close and are ever so talkative. :/ I imagine then complaining that I came out here with out something for them. I forgot to pick up scratch, so they will have to go without for a couple of days. bad mommy!

Psst. Pssssttttt. PSSTTTTTT!!!!! Is anyone alive out there? Nearly 16 hours of no posts, at all? I'm beginning to wonder if the chickens aren't the only thing the heat has gotten to.

'Course, I'm stuck in a huge brick building with no windows all day, so I couldn't even tell you what the weather is like out there...

Anyone else on this thread ever hatch out fertile trader joes eggs? I have a few chicks I've grown out from them, and they're looking for good homes. They are small, eat next to nothing and the pullet will lay great :). 2 cockerels and 1 pullet. Selling for 5 dollars each.
