Arizona Chickens

:cd well I found some new about chickens. They take their treats very seriously when they are of high value. I got some meal worms, came home thinking they will like them....... did they ever. I had chicken fights. Powder, the last r second last attacked one of the heavy weights when the other got to the worm first. She was so made. Of course she didn't get that worm, do Betsy trying to tare up Blondie. Then she dashed after Bon, the Alfa hen, she got her share. Then the little ones, they did not know about worms, until now. I made sure each got one. Tipsy, suddenly got aggressive. :lau Next time I better have a lot more worms, not just a hand full. I gust I am going to have to start raise meal worms. :idunno what else can I do?

Cool!  I remember when we were constructing our coop

i am open to advice !
first timers here :) i was thinking heat tolerant 3 or 4 weeks old, able to go out in the run, and forage some, but young enough that i can try and get friendly

I have a mix also, 2 Buff Orpington, 1 blue Orpington, 1 Rhode Island Red, 3 Americana, 1 Silver Lace Wyandotte, 1 Black Sex Link, 1 Red Sex Link, 1 Barred Rock, and 1 Partridge Barred Rock. They all seem to be handling the heat with the shade and mister. The only problem is their feathers are suffering from the minerals in the water.

Haha, mine are that way too. I tried to video tape them eating a large handful but they were gone before I could point the camera! I do raise mealworms myself, so they have a constant supply.

I have a bunch of cockerels in my little group of 9 chickens.  Perhaps 6...at least 3.  These little roos are about 9-10 weeks old.  Am I going to hear them crowing soon?  I'm around them for about 45 minutes in the early morning, and 1 hour in the evening (and more time during the weekends).  I'm worried I'll miss their crowing while I'm at work, and meanwhile, the neighbors are ripping their hair out in annoyance at constant crowing.  I really want them to get bigger before freezer time, but I'll process as they begin to crow.

I guess my question is: once a cockerel starts crowing, am I going to know about it?

It takes a while for them to get a full crow. They practice for a few weeks and sound a bit like a bad squeaky toy. I have two that are about the same age as yours. They try to crow only in the early am when my rooster is in the garage. Otherwise I haven't heard them try when he's out. They are not nearly as loud as a mature rooster, though, so chances are your neighbors don't hear them. Especially this time of year when most people are inside.

I have to share this with you guys. My rooster was with the mama hen and the chicks and he kept his head down. He'd close his eyes and let the chicks peck at his wattles. He even let them jump on his back. By the time I got my phone to take a picture there was only one chick left on him, but you can see how he kept his head down and didn't move. He really is a gentle roo.

Theres still one more hatch on the Brown Egg Layer Pullet Assortments...Does anyone want me to order again?
It be $2.20 for each chick except the two free ones. They'd be shipped the 17th.

:love that is one of the things that I want to have. A really good rooster, the daddy type. It always touched me when I watch the little family's in a field. Some daddy's were better then others. How cool, and lucky you are. A good loving daddy.
