Arizona Chickens

Hello All,
I am sorry to hear about the recent losses. I recently lost most of my flock to predators. I was down to three Turkens until I went to Pratt's about a month ago and picked up six chicks. I believe we have the coop secured.

By the way, Cheryl "Kent Jr. # 2" MOM, that you took when you were here,
went to log into your web site and said she had to do a gmail.. So she gave up..
However, she is so happy you took him, & really only because you are NOT going to eat him... She was pleasantly surprised to see him.. She loved
your web site and information along with his photo.. She would like to thank you herself on your blog, but having a gmail did not work for her..
Please let us know when you plan a trip this way... We will be having parties by the fire soon..

Thanks for letting me know about the blog comments; I had it set for 'registered users' to be able to comment, to try and keep out the spamsters. I've changed the settings to allow anyone to comment but have added moderation (meaning I have to approve comments before they appear). If you will let her know I've made changes, I would love for her to give it a test run and see if it will let her comment now. Thanks.

Lol. He's cute but he does need to learn some manners & I'm surprised the bigger girls in there haven't taken him down a peg or two, but maybe he hasn't tried jumping them yet; just the smaller silkies and the frizzles.

[COLOR=333333]On the way home from work, my wife found a HUGE prickly pear cactus that has some beautifully ripe fruit! It is at a dentists office near our house, so I stopped in to ask if I could harvest them all. They agreed without hesitation! Now, to decide how many buckets I need to take with me... Like love home made wines. I have even thought of planting Dandelion for wine..... -------------------------------------------- I didn't take the button quail eggs, the have about 3 pints off them, a lot every day, I took the larger variety. I have no way to protect the little Button Quail. If anybody that wants them stop by Pratt's on Glendale, in Glendale.

Just found my favorite chicken dead by my kid's playset. Separate part of the yard than where ahe was supposed to be--dogs. She must have flown ovwr the fence that separates the garden. No obvious injury but I'm sure it was my dogs. She's the loudest, most friendly chicken, the coop is practically silent without her.

Hey everyone! Ive been off for so long! Im glad to hear everyone is doing well! I recently picked up 12 chickens and a black spanish turkey poult for my school coop. The chicks are a plethora of color and breeds! I know so far that there is a welsummer and some cochins. But there are two that are a blue color. The turkey is massive! Ill try to get some pictures up for you guys

So Clark kent Jr.#2 is mean, huh? Kent jr had very large testicles. Like 4x larger than the other Roos we processed.. At first I thought
they were his kidneys.. Brat, hope those girls do take him down.. Our "pretty boy" is Kent's son mixed with another hen. He not
only peck's the girls, but he doesn't let go of their feather's, then adds a twist to it.. Jerk! So he is out front in the coop.. Awaiting his
fate?? I might let him out with them later this evening??

Ugh, since we are newbies, I think our golden lakenvelder is a roo.. No crow yet.. Does anyone know if that breed matures late?

My chicks are coming Oct 6th. I placed an order for organic starter with Phoenix Organic Feed, but it may not be here before the chicks come and that would not be good. Does anyone know where I can get organic starter feed locally (just a smaller bag) to last a few days? I'm in the NE valley and have gone to a few feed stores and been unsuccessful in finding organic starter.
Now to start building the coop!

Holy bananas! Time to clip some wings. One of my big fat EEs got spooked by my dog sneaking up on her yesterday (not to eat her, just to sniff) and FLEW at least twenty feet far and 5 feet high. Over the pool completely! Wow!

My Sicilian Buttercups fly well, but the EE was a surprise.

My chicks are coming Oct 6th.  I placed an order for organic starter with Phoenix Organic Feed, but it may not be here before the chicks come and that would not be good.  Does anyone know where I can get organic starter feed locally (just a smaller bag) to last a few days?  I'm in the NE valley and have gone to a few feed stores and been unsuccessful in finding organic starter.
Now to start building the coop!

If you are willing to make the drive to the Northwest Valley, I have plenty of extra feed from the co-op to get you through to the order. Let me know if you want some. My clan free ranges, so we are using less and less feed as the summer has gone by.
