Arizona Chickens

Getting ready to party.. It is warmer than I thought it would be.. Enjoy your weekend
Everyone..

I want to say good morning, after that party last night..
But it is now early afternoon.. Our neighbors has a Holloween costume party
that went till 3-4am.. I was sure the girls would be exsausted from the noise.. I
said to my DH. He said they are city chickens, use to all the sirens & helicopters.
Sure enough they were laying.. We have a new Oliver layer as of this morning.. I
think it is one of yours maryohsong.. Fiona.. Caught her in the one of nesting boxes.
Felisha is now broody as of yesterday. I had thought she went broody 3 days ago, but
when I went to feed the F.F. She was out & about, so I took all of her eggs.. At this
point there are 8 under her.. 2 from Jenny that we got from flower & Holly's plus
2 from felisha. The rest are from either blondie or sofia..

Last nigh was a blast I do wish more of you could of been here.. I did meet about
4 new chicken folk.. We will be having a afternoon tea time soon.. So keep your eyes
peeled for that date..

A loud and rowdy day at casa Baggins.  System of a Down and Candlebox and Primus rocking the hi fi.  Glass full of tasty ale.

Oh boy, sounds fun.. One of our neighbors brought over Four Peeks peach ale.. I kept
that on the front patio, private reserve for just a few of us durring last nights gathering..
There is still some left for ME.. Tomorrow.
I invited a few neighbors over for a de-briefing about our party last night. We love to have
Pre- briefings, post briefings & then de- briefings.. it is fun to hear about others & their
conversations.. :woot

I ordered a bunch of Moringa seeds and am in the process of planting them in 4" pots. I plan to plant them in various places around my property, hoping at least some of them thrive. I want to use them to supplement my poultry feed since it is so hard to get enough greens into them, especially in the summer, here in the desert since I can't free range and not much to range on anyway. They will probably die back in the winter here, but are said to grow very rapidly from the roots even if they do. In the Phoenix area, you folks should have no problem with that. They like the heat and are high in protein and all sorts of other good nutrients. Good for people, too. Wish me luck this is not just another "high hopes" project

Yep, I had to make a little "baby gate" out of trellises for that. Since there's large holes in the trellis they can walk through which they do rarely, they never go over it. If I wanted to spend a little more money I could get some hardware cloth so they couldn't go through it but it deters them enough that I rarely have to hose poop off the patio anymore. If I had more flighty breeds I'm sure it would be much different. Chickenproofing 101 They'll rip the leaves off through the holes in the fencing and peck holes in any veggies that are close enough but they never go over it into the gardens. The tall plastic netting in the middle of the raised bed is for snap peas to climb. It's not the prettiest of gardens but it's functional.
I am surprised your girls don't just jump right over your baby gate.. Ours would in a sec.. They really love the green grass.. Thank you for posting up great photos...

I listen to a ton of music. My taste is pretty varied. Everything from late 60's to now as long as its not country or polka or too much hip hop or top 40.

My daughter has been all over my music collection. Apple homesharing between computers is so awesome. I wish we had that when I was a kid. My dad got ****** if he caught me using his turntable. Now, my girl has complete access to my music and she can't screw it up.

Right....I remember those days...we too always have music going!! Always we have a cheap radio on the front patio, a cheap
radio on the back. One in the garage, one in my office out back, one hooked up to the T.V. In our room & living room.. Plus
the boys rooms.. Now all I want is someone to come and play at our BON FIRES... I bought a family gift last year.. Guess???
A portable iPod radio.. It goes threw soooooo many batteries.. So of course back to the front patio radio..

I'm roasting a chicken (not one of my girls) in a pint of my Porter right now. Thats going to get shredded up and added to a crock of pintos and roasted Hatch chilis. Brown rice and fresh tortillas on the side.

Holy carp!!! This is smelling so good right now!!

Ok that did it!!!
Here is the song that I sing, the kids roll their eyes when we as parents do funky stuff.. I go around singing.
"I like to party ALL the TIme, party alllll the time, PARTY allllllll.. The TIME, I like to party all the time PARTY
ALLLL the time PARTY alllll the TIME"
I hope ya all will do the same?!!!

I guess there really isnt anything over on the patio side to interest them. The grass is where all the good stuff is. On the patio side is just concrete and rocks, there's the same bushes and stuff that's on the grass side of the yard but since the bushes on the grass side get more water from the sprinklers and the drips they have the better bugs under them. :) The only time they went through the holes in the gate was when I had the potted jalapeno plant on the ground. Once I put it on the table they haven't bothered.
