Eleanor's in quarantine.... again. She has a weed problem. LOL She gorges herself on grass and because she has a chronic pendulous crop she gets sour crop easily. This time it was because the brand new Rye grass just came in and she had just started laying so she was especially hungry I think. Sometimes I can make her vomit put her back and then she's fine. This time her crop didnt go all the way back before she filled up with more grass to ferment. So she's on water and grit until tomorrow and then her plain food in the cage until she can control herself. I may just buy or make her a crop bra. I hate to have her stuck in it all the time but I may just have to cave.

Advise needed:
I have an EE in my brooder that is always (daily) losing fluid out of her beak, and her crop always feels soft. The other two chicks in the brooder are fine. Any ideas or suggestions on action?

sounds like sour or impacted crop. I tend to cull such birds along with the ones with pendulous crops, but I'm sure a search of the site with bring up some information for you.

Sounds good. No pressure at all. Honestly, I see this as a beginner coop due to it's size. I outgrew mine with my first batch of chickens!

Twinklin, I don't even know if I could deal with a bird that has a chronic issue like yours. How on earth did you ever figure out she had a problem to begin with? How did you learn how to make her vomit and clear the crop? I wouldn't even know how to diagnose the crop like you can. And I've certainly never heard of a crop bra. I admire you!

Or a nice breeding coop for a pair or trio or a brooder set up.... ;-)

Just in case not everybody knows, the Tucson Poultry, Pigeon and Fancy Fowl Club will hold it's 43rd Annual Winter Show November 23-24 at the Pima County Fairgrounds, Thurber Hall. Show is free and open to the public. There will be about 1000 or more birds entered, and birds for sale.

Doors open at 6:00 AM on Saturday, judging begins at 9:00 am. There will be lots of activities going on all day, lots of raffles and lunch available to buy. In addition, the Rosecomb Bantam Federation will hold their National Meet on Saturday and there will be an American Game Fowl Show as well, so expect a lot of birds to see.

Doors open at 7:00 AM on Sunday. Junior Show at 8:00 AM, Serama Show at 8:00 AM. Awards Ceremonty at 10:00 AM and Grand Raffle at 11:00 AM. Grand Raffle is a 4' X 6' wire cage made of aviary wire and wood frame with door & latch. The cage can be taken apart and transported. This was built by the Boyer family; they built one for last year's raffle and it was VERY nice.

I attended the send off to Tour De Coop, but didn't have time to take the tour. I will next year. I picked up some great information, and found answers to a question about mesquite flour. Now that I have a flower mill I could make my own flour. I am curious will taste like. Harvesting the desert is something that is good to know.
