You might try www.housecarers.com. Website for housesitting. Lots of people advertise their services there, a friend of mine in Tucson found a couple to housesit and care for her chickens on that site earlier this year. Good luck.

Does anyone in Arizona vaccinate for avian pox? Sorry I have been asking so many questions lately but I feel like there is so much I don't know about having chickens...

Hey, you known I'm right around the corner from you and either my wife or I drive by there six days a week. Just message or call me so we can talk... In case Mama Hen's friend doesn't work out or needs a reprieve at some point or another. No reason to stress or panic.

And tell Flower she's in our thoughts and prayers, please.

I don't vaccinate for anything. For me, it's all in the good, natural husbandry to let them survive on their own. For us, they are a source of food, so we don't consider them pets. We are bound to lose some along the way, and although we try to minimize it, we don't keep the ill around. Natural selection will give a much stronger, more vibrant flock that will drastically improve the enjoyment of your animals. The weak and sick are culled, so the strong may survive better.

Any of you Tucson folk want processed, ready-to-cook organically grown heritage chickens, I butchered another batch of cockerels yesterday, so they are fresh, fresh! and still have quite a few frozen. They are $5/pound: the fresh ones left are 4 lb 13 oz, 5 lb, and one big older rooster (almost 2 years old) 6 lb 2 oz. He still has a nice layer of fat, not a lean bird at all but would need to be cooked special to tenderize. I am also delivering to the U of A area at 4 today and could meet you---I know, short notice, but you never know. Call me if interested: 744-4211
