Arizona Chickens

OMG OMG OMG. I guess all it took was talking about it and bringing it up to you all for her to lay her first egg. I went out to get our other girls egg and was squealing with delight when I opened the door to see two eggs and one being green!!!! My EE layed her first egg final at 7 months 2 day. Way to go KFC, we love our girls.

Woohoo, Congrats!

I know a company called Flucker's sells freeze dried crickets. They also sell canned crickets. I haven't tried the freeze dried ones but did use the canned ones for sugar gliders. They are very moist and look absolutely disgusting but the sugar gliders seemed to like them. I think both of these are marketed for reptiles, but can't think of a reason not to give them to chickens. Amazon sells both of these products btw/

:love YOU HAVE SUGER GLIDERS! I love them. Met one many years ago. Sadly I read up on them and I feel short on what they need. Just be couse I fell in love with an animal dose not mean we are right for each other. I love ridge back dogs, but I can not have one. They need to work, they have high energy, and I could not supply them with the good life. The same with ferrets sand hedge hogs.

Chickens, however!

Congrats on that gorgeous green egg (I am green with envy - LOL)!!

Hello everyone!

I have been a long time lurker and wanted to say hi. A little history, I grew up raising chickens in Washington state and moved to Arizona about 8 years ago. I grew up mostly taking care of road island reds, ameraucanas and a few other hybrids. Since living in Arizona, I have always wanted to get chickens again and recently moved out to Litchfield Park and built my first coop.

I am about to get 10 pullets later this month so expect to see some pictures on here! My wife has never had chickens so this will be an exciting experience for her. It sure is nice to have an Arizona specific thread so I know what to be aware of in terms of predators and other challenges! I look forward to getting to know everyone here.

So glad you joined... Love the name... :woot
:welcome

Thanks for all the response. I have some one only 4 blocks over. So close. I can now relax. I hate not being able to say I am going to do something then not do it. My word is all I have. It is old fashion but some things that are old fashion are to good to change. We all on this BYC seem to agree on that point. Such as dignity of life and knowing were your food comes from. It all feels good. :hugs It feels very good.

Plenty of people out here that love to help.. I remember having you over for tea & you saying you
don't have to many friends.. I think you are in the right place for good people & new friends.
When we go to people's homes that have zero animals, it feels weird..

It was great that you opened up your lovely home for the possessing party.. & love to see what
you have in your fabulous garden..

For the newbies.

I still find her one of the creepiest, weirdest people around. Those eyes and that body movement just screams mentally disturbed to me. Of course, the constant short clipping of the video in between recordings make it that much worse. You blink and go from six chickens in the background to none, and then back to three or four. It's just disturbing and wrong!
