Arizona Chickens

After two disastrous non-hatches due to humidity issues in the incubator, I have 13 eggs due to hatch tomorrow and 5 are already pipping. Go, chicks! You can do it!

Quote: It's the overall shape of the bird, as well as its crow head that doesn't look like Old English. Most varieties (colours/patterns) are available in many breeds, not just specific to one. It might be a cross between American game and OE. My first thought on looking at it was American Game, but it isn't that, either. There are "breeds: of game birds that I am not very familiar with on appearance--ones that are not primarily exhibition...

Here is a silver duckwing largefowl OE from feathersite:

and an OEGB, also from feathersite:

Notice the shorter back and fuller tail. One thing to note is that US and UK standards on type are quite a bit different. THe one posted earlier looks more like UK type than US, so depending on the source, that is possible.

I know wishing for invasive species is a no-no, but I do kinda wish it were warm enough here to have wild parakeets and lovebirds like up there in Phoenix. A few years ago, I was staying in Pasadena...I got up early for a jog, and there were FLOCKS of wild parrots flying all over. I saw macaws, parakeets, just all sorts of parrots. It sounded like a jungle. I guess the parrots cause a lot of damage there, but seeing a freaking flock of macaws flying overhead in the middle of a city is cool. Especially when one doesn't live there and have to deal with the damage!

Congrats on the hatching, MagicChicken!

If you believe the weather gurus, it's only a brief matter of time. Global warming will change it all and you'll have the Brazilian Jungle in your backyard by the end of the century. You'll be bouncing around like that Macaw from the movie Rio any day now... Ok, maybe not that fast, but still...

Me personally, I think it's a giant load of rabbit berries... The Earth cycles in temperature all the time, with some warmer periods and some colder periods. It's readily apparent through the deep ice research in both polar regions, as well as our local flora. Should we be more Earth-friendly? Absolutely, but Mother Earth will slaughter all the weak before she allows any catastrophic damage to herself. There is nothing we can do about that, but to be prepared. Species have come and gone over the centuries as well. It's a part of the natural life cycle.

THANK YOU for your rant. History repeats itself...whether it is politics or weather or anything else...LOL. So if you look back at the history of the earth, there ARE cycles of global warming, just as there are cycles of cooling. ***end of my rant***

That is all so true. Years ago I was in a dinner in New Mexico. A costumer came in brimming with excitement. He had bought a number of acres of land for retirement. High on a hill overlooking a small stream. When they were digging his foundation for his house they found an Indian village batting back to the BC. He, was over joyed. Bought a camper and became part of the dig on his property. To him, the adventure of a life time. Why did the Indians build high up from the little stream. When the village was there the little stream was a raging river, as much as a 1/2 mile in some places. The whole area had trees and grass, speculation was tge village was abandoned becouse the area was turning to desert. Every time he came in town he would go to this cafe to give updates. This week it was early findings on wild life they ate and their trash dump, they had just found. Apparently our you believe that the garbage dump is the best way to get to know the people. When we are long gone........ The archeologists will be telling the story of our lives by our trash....... This scares me.

Having said this, I need to add that we are having an impact and we are influencing the changes. Somehow, things well stabilize, there is no word for earth recovery, that would mean going backward. Earth can only go forward. Changes will slow down from our influences. It is the impossible task on figuring out what is us and what is natural. I believe it is a wast of energy. Do what we can to stop interfering. Then adjust to what ever nature is doing on its own, cold, heat, rain, storms, earth quakes, volcano's, earth rising & falling. If we know we are not adding, what is left is natures plan. An ice age or tropics.
