Arizona Chickens

I just posted that I am in Show Low but forgot to highlight your quote so that everyone would know that I was responding to you. :) Anyway, I'm in Show Low, too.

Glad to hear it. I have to meet people here so I can get the rundown on things its kinda a drastic transition comin here from the NM desert I don't know anything about gardening or anything her lol any advie is valuable to me lol.

Hi, I am in Show Low.
Well, I'm not in Show Low but I do live North of Prescott. We moved up here about 19 years ago and I'm absolutely tickled to get out of the Valley and away from that extreme heat. I originally came from Indiana and was raised on a farm so Chino Valley is more like Indiana in its weather, etc. except it's a little more drier here. The great part is that gardens do really well in this area so I do garden, can, freeze, make jelly, etc. like I did on the farm. I have 6 buff orpingtons and just bought 3 more last week along with 3 black sex links and going Monday to buy a couple of Golden Sex Links. Feel free to ask questions as the climate here is pretty much the same as in Show Low. We get snow in the winter. Been into chickens and gardening for over 50 years. Not an expert on either one by any stretch of the imagination. I am strongly into organic gardening and natural chicken raising. Not a fanatic but tired of all the chemicals, etc. in our food, eggs, etc. from the stores.

Well thankyou I. Appreciate it I've been gardening and have had birds all my 34 yrs lol but with a new area comes new challenges. I'm not sure what the soil is like here where to obtain free pallets or anything. I'm sure it will all come in time and I'm dieing for winter to be over so I can do something more constructive. I need to figure ojut where to get good compost so I can start amending soil now. Etc.

Our daughter and grandson spent the day in Tempe at the Aloha festival. They had so much fun. DH and I spent the weekend in the garden. Picking weeds, pulling up some radishes, planted cucumbers, zucchini, watermelon, sunflowers and string beans. Praying for a better harvest than last year. Hoping my timing is OK. Chickens and bunnies were free ranging all weekend. New rolling composter is built thanks to DH. I just love this time of year!!! Happy spring all!

So, I heard that Cackle Hatchery has a "Fry Pan Special" going right now. A hundred heavy breed cockerels for $37.50, plus either three free ducks or five free exotic chicks. Shipping is $42. So they are 80¢ each.

Is anyone interested in splitting an order with me. I think I'm interested in about fifteen or twenty. And since that comes to the same price for broilers locally as this special... I'm liking the bigger order.

Message me!

Ended up going to Amado for a new plastic waterer for the ladies, ended up with 3 peeps and more baby food! ha! My daughter picked out one Rhode Island Red, one Red Sex link and one Gold laced Wyandotte. Wife gave me the look...I told her it was my daughters deal. *snicker
The wind picked up on Sunday, something fierce. Blew everything, everywhere. Now the pergola is coming loose and some boards are cracked. Going full carpenter here on the days off. Other than that, the kids are out of school (spring break), and we are Roasting a full chicken (Beer Can Chicken) and enjoying some great Hefe-weissbier. Yup, springs here, all is well. So glad all of you are doing great.
