Arizona Chickens

Gilbert just passed, tonight, amendments to the current zoning which allow single family residences in zones SF6 & SF7 to keep chickens. They also changed the coop placement from the nearly impossible "100 feet from any property lines" to "within the building envelope or in the far half of the back yard at least 5 feet from nearest property line".

As you may remember, I lost my chickens several years ago and vowed to get them back.

Hee, hee, hee.

I'm baaaaaack!

Now, we still have to involve ourselves in SB1151, in order that ALL cities in Arizona allow at least a few chickens. The Bill is currently sitting in the House of Representatives awaiting being put on the Agenda. There is increasing pressure from the HOA's and their hired guns, and it is very tight. Very. If you would please consider contacting (phone calls preferred, with a followup email) your 2 Representatives, you could help get this Bill passed to the Governor.

Here is how they are voting as of today. We need to get the undecideds, and lean on the "NO"'s

This is a list of our suspected Votes we have been told for SB1151. We need to look close at this list. The (Maybe) House Members can easily turn to a no and we are recording them that way to be on the safe side. The MAYBE votes need to be persuaded right away. You can see we have no wiggle room and every vote will count. Do not stop calling and emailing. This is up to all of us to make happen. It will not happen if you do not call and email. We all must take part and not just the few. Counting on a worst case situation - 11 NO - 9 yes

Hey everyone...been a whirlwind of things going on. Mom passed away last week, funeral was today. Have some personal issues going on and was looking to see if any of you may know of any houses for rent that are chicken and dog friendly. I really do not want to get rid of the girls. Please pm me if you know of anything. Thanks
So sorry about your loss. Good luck with the home, hope you find something suitable.

Store eggs pointy end down. That way the air cell is at the top.

I also live in Tucson. I do not add ice to my chicken water but I do have a shallow pan (made from rubber) that I put water in for them to stand in. They have a lot of mesquite trees that help shade my coop though. Just make sure you have adequate water and you are good. We installed an automatic waterier this year and we love it.

so I live in Tucson and I am looking for a few silkies to add to my coop. I have a wide variety of chickens (mostly ameraucana's) but I want some little silkies as brooders for next year. anyone have or know of someone who raises healthy happy silkies?
