Arizona Chickens

Ya all don't forget to submit your input in writing.. Or email, call.. It is so important... If you are not able to go you can still be heard..
I was not able to attend, 'cuz I work nights. I also don't live "in" the city. Can I still make my voice heard? Any idea where to send a letter?

When we , as a whole neighborhood, had to fight with the city of Tempe & city council for different codes changes, variances friends of ours from Peoria & Scottsdale wrote letters. They never questioned them.. In my opion any comment will help..

Ok I can see that but chickens are classified as livestock and there is only 1 livestock inspector in southern AZ. Are they going to add a provision that urban livestock fall under city inspectors? I feel if the city inspector can write people up for violations is he also going to protect the urban livestock from neighbors dogs etc? Animal control does not protect livestock.

The residential zoning codes for cities will trump state, in this case. So no, the state livestock inspector will not be involved in inspecting backyard chickens. And yes, urban livestock will fall under city code inspectors. This update will not change how animal control operates.

My family is up to their old tricks again. I rented a storage unit to just fit my stuff. I was told NOT to sell some old furniture. The old furniture no problem, give to charity. But I have 3 heirlooms I must store. I am worried about the 2 pieces.

I also ended up with this.

The MOBILITY SCOOTER IS FOR SALE
There was a big thing about how important this was. Now it is not good enough for my sister if she needed it. She will need a new one. But it is fine for me, I "do not mind things like that". Well, it is funny but most people do not mind things like that and would be happy to have it if they need one.

Dose anyone need one? I am selling it for $350.00 or make an offer. It has it's basket, my nephew took it off, no idea why. He doesn't need a reason. I have until the end of the month.

I got there late..but it was basically an informational meeting about proposed changes to city codes. Under the new proposed rules we can have up to 8 chickens as long as the coop is 20 ft from your neighbors' house. The number used to be 25 chickens 50ft from your neighbors house. There will be no restrictions on front yard gardens, but other livestock will also be restricted. Namely rabbits and goats.

Hmm, well, I followed the old rules when I built mine. It's at least 50' from any neighbors dwelling and I only have 8 birds and will have less after these stop laying. I think I will stick with 6 after this first flock.
So, their dropping the number of birds and easing up on the distance restrictions. Is that about the gist of it?

So, I guess I'll continue to give eggs out to some of the neighbors to keep up relations. Although, many neighbors have told me they never hear my chickens anyway. My coop is 8' on the high side and 6-1/2 on the low. I made it that way so I can actually walk into the run and stand up. Having to remodel it under 6' would be a nightmare.

Might be a good idea to document the animal shelters you have already, so you can demonstrate that they pre-dated the new regs. That is assuming the current structures are not in violation of current zoning rules. Just a thought.
