It's not the prettiest but it's putting out some good shade for them. My wife does crafts and I got a bunch of fabric for free for her. She's self teaching to sew and We had this left over. It's so gaudy (spell?) it's kinda nice looking. Had 6 big pieces and sewed them all together into a square, then I put grommets on and zip tied it to the chicken wire. I would have rather used Bungee cords instead if zip ties but that's all I had. They would allow for some expansion when the winds gusts I think where zip ties won't. I will prob weld a frame together for the fabric roof to rest on as it's already sagging. I wet it down to give them some evaporative cooling. We are renting and moving farely soon so I'm trying to do everything at NO COST to low cost right now. Also I have built everything to where it could be torn down and trashed in a moments notice in case that ever needed to happen. When it cools off I will make it more presentable but you gotta get up at 4:30 am now to escape this heat so I will wait til after summer or just do it 5 minutes at a time. My shop doesn't have a roof here).
They work at the TEP plant?

It looks great to me, as long as they have shade that's all that matters. I believe the guy that works nights does work at TEP. I understand he needs to sleep during the day and I have no problem with that BUT if he's going to have doors and windows open he's going to have to deal with some noise. And when did it become the norm to call the police if your neighbors are a bit noisy. I always thought you just knock on their door an talk to them. I guess I grew up in the wrong generation.

Those guys sleep during their shifts anyways. Sounds like a B word to me. (Excuse if it's too harsh). A man doesn't call the cops over such simple things. He has no interest in being anyone's neighbor. Unhappy people will always project their unhappiness on others around them. In the old days he'd get his A kicked. In the south at least. I know physical violence is not supposed to be the answer, but some people need to be told A Different Way that their actions are uncalled for and affect people.

"Sounds like a B word(Excuse if too harsh)". Lol! I was a mechanic in the Army too so you know I've said things much worse than that:duc

I have a 12x12 run with 8 little ones in it. I took down there coop yesterday so they could have more air flow. We sewed and hung a cloth roof over everything so they have shade and don't share their food with other birds. They have a few logs and a huge spool as well as a couple pieces of wood leaned for shelter. I hung watermelon yesterday and they picked it clean. Today I hung cabbage but they have t touched that yet. No nesting boxes yet because they're all you d and don't need/use them yet. They like to Roost on the spool. I plan to make a couple nests in the corners and I'll build them where the wind and rain can't get in. They seem to enjoy this set up. They really just want to do whatever they want so that's why I guess.

Watermelon and canteloupe great! Cabbage NO. Chicks can't fart or burp the gases. Skip kale and cabbage. Use a veggie net bag like an onion bag and chop up chunks of carrots, apples, all squash and hang the bag. They'll love that too.

Somebody told my polish hen that laying two eggs in one day wasn't allowed. Hasn't done it now for several days.
On the up side, she is laying one almost normal size egg every day instead of two itty bitty eggs.

AY, CARAMBA! After feeding and watering the animals, this morning, I refilled the sump tank in my greenhouse from my "outside" IBC. I then started refilling the outside IBC from the hose. While waiting for it to fill, I watered my plants outside the greenhouse, then did some puttering around inside the greenhouse (us old guys do a lot of puttering!). I then noticed one of my upper growbeds was overflowing. The way I have the plumbing set up, the only way it can overflow is if the drains are plugged. On the south end of the growbed, there are two 2" diameter drains with a 10" standpipe going into the lower growbed. Reaching in through the top, I found the standpipes completely clogged with roots. No matter how hard I pulled, I couldn't pull the roots out. So, I went to the bottom end and pulled the drain lines off, and this is what I pulled out.... I guess tomorrow I should do some more puttering and check the drain pipes on the other upper grow bed!!
Wow, that is a lot of something growing.. Love the photo.. It looks like a fishing vacation photo..
