Arizona Chickens

yes it is normal, she's gone Broody! When they become Broody they usually have a Broody poop which is quite large. And I've heard it takes 21 to 23 days before they finish the cycle.(I'm new to BYC,but have had a chicken/chickens for abt 2yrs) Again I tricked my one year-old hen by giving her baby chicks and let her believe she already finished laying her eggs/chicks. So it's up to you what you want to do from here. Good luck!

I am pretty sure she isn't broody. She is active, not sitting.

Well maybe? Have you check her to see if there is a egg that is stuck?? Egg bound

Also most sure she is not egg bound, she doesn't show any lethargic or gagging or whatever, she is normal, eating and drinking just fine.

Have you checked her crop? My hen with pendulous crop would do the gagging sound when she'd get sour crop, she also would stop laying and sometimes act strange in general. If it feels like her crop is very hard and not clearing in the morning it could be impacted, if it feels like a sloshy water balloon it could be sour. There's many ways to treat both. If you feel either of those things let us know and many of us have dealt with one or both so we can point you in the right direction.
This is one thing I had worried a bit a while ago, her crop does feel sometimes when its full has an unnecessary curve at the down side. However it is never feel impacted, or sloshy, nor can I smell bad smell when I massage her crop.

had a chick hatch today, it did not make it. I heard a few more so I am hoping I wake up to pips and they hatch at night. guess im on guard mom duty for the next few days. 4 broody hens in 2 nest boxes not good.

Finally on the road. Left this morning. Post on youtub "travel with chickens day 1 part 1". And "travel with chickens day 1 part 2". Very tired. Very long trip. Had to stop every hour to hour and a half, check on chickens, give water and let them eat a little. I put ice in thier water bottle and ice in the tray under thier coop. It was so hot. The Rabbit Hutch was a good choose, they could get out of the wind.

The RV park I stayed at while I was finishing my move had chickens, 3 Buff Orpingtons. Now they have 4 Buff Orpintons. They seemed pleased with Mary because she was so tame and friendly. She was picking the chicks tarrably and drew bood on one of them last night. So I could not let her stay with them. The first night I had the coop she took it over and would not let the others in. I hatted to leave her, but I think she will have a good home. There was 1 altercation, last 2 sec. The rooster stepped in and stopped it.

I will try to stop earlier to marrow and try to catch up on my reading. Right now I want to get out of the heat.

OFF Topic, I just realized that there is no ExxonMobile gas stations in Phoenix? Why is that? My credit card has 3% cash back if I buy at ExxonMobile, I did a search online, NONE! Somehow in my mind I think I have seen their logos somewhere....

So sorry, it's very sad when they don't make it.

I have no experience with broody hens, but it sounds like you have your hands full.

Hey Bonnie good to hear your doing well. Where was that RV park at? Ironically enough my wife and I were just discussing whether or not there were RV parks that had chickens, and pow you post it. Be safe
