Arizona Chickens

Yes, we see some of our foster kids on a regular basis. Some of the kids, they would rather put that time of their life in their past, where it belongs. We almost always took teenagers. They don't require diaper changes, but the TIME... You have to do a lot of listening. We have a small house and 5 of our own children. And our children never said no to taking in another kid. They complained. Sure. But they have always been proud of the fact that they lived in a "shelter".
I need to sit and talk with you someday. i really really want to do this.

What?? How old?? That is weird..
I know, right? The first time I saw what she was really doing when she made that sound I was so surprised! She hatched in late Oct. so about 8 months.

This is a picture of the damage to the coop.
Yikes! Gallo gave you great advice, and yes go with hardware cloth, much stronger stuff.

I set 92 coturnix eggs last night in an old Hovabator. Will see what kind of hatch I get since my quail insist on laying in the hottest part of the day. I collect as often as I can but when I have to work they can be out in the heat for a few hours at least.

A little chicken did you incubate any of the quail eggs? I don't remember how long it's been, did they have enough time to hatch by now?

You All are Wonderful! It been a blessing to hear you all share thoughts, ideas and dreams. Thank you for those who have invested TIME in a child's life! You guys make an AWESOME Team!!!

We have done foster parenting for over 38 yrs. but had to stop for my husband's health reasons. Everyone of our kids always remember us on Mother's day, Father's day, etc. and a lot of them still come visit.

:barnie First a broody, now a different sex link hen of mine is starting to try to crow! :he   It sounds more like a sick cow, but her posture as she is doing it is pure rooster.  I had not seen her at the nest boxes for a while, maybe her ovaries are shrinking?  Any advice? Why is this happening??

I just had this start happening to one of my older hens, she's about two. I had this happen last year too. At first I thought I had a late developing crow among my youngest flock but not a single one showed any signs of being a cockerel. After three mornings of trying to figure out who is doing it(she only does it early mornings I even spent from 4-6am yesterday just sitting out there waiting) finally this morning I was looking out my bedroom window and she stood up proud flapped her wings and did the first two notes of a crow perfectly. I knew she was going to stop laying soon as it is she only lays an egg every 2+ weeks. She's one of my favorites BUT I can't keep her since I have that one neighbor who insists on calling the police if my animals toot against the wind. I'm hoping I can find a friend who will keep her around. She's that rare chicken that jumps in your lap follows you comes when called lets you carry her just extremely sweet.

I would offer her a home but you live far from me. I have roosters so if exposed to roosters she should become "normal" again. Hope you get her a home. :)

So the plan was to go to the Poultry meeting yesterday but unfortunately my friends car broke down as I was getting ready to leave my house. Plus I was running late trying to take care of my scalped chick "Momba" which by the way went to heaven this am. I tried my hardest to save her. :hit

:hit. Poor little guy.. Condolences from us
