Last year, I was taking a walk in a park near my house, and I found a bunch of acorns on the sidewalk. They were unusual acorns, because the outer shell was almost totally black. I gathered a handful and sprouted some. I have one left in a pot right now, and while it is not growing as fast as yours, it is about 14" tall right now!

I never did positively identify the species, I think it may be a hybridized white oak of some kind.

That's awesome!

I bought some bald cypress seeds to try (they are just so mysterious looking), but I haven't tried to sprout them yet. All of the trees we've planted on our property have been taken out of the creek and were saplings (cottonwoods and ash) or purchased at a nursery (fruit or nut trees).

I love the idea of growing things from seed, so this is a whole new area to explore!

Oh how cool, post photos of it.. That would be so awesome to do..

****, that sucks, Gallo.  Can BYC do anything since now I guess your plans are technically copyrighted by BYC?

Okay, I'm back from vacation!  Yahoo, my chickens survived.  Even my garden did okay, though the bed of squash didn't make it.  Replanted on Sunday, should be golden in a few weeks.

My EE is broody...I'm not sure when that started.  I didn't think EE's were prone to broodiness, but didn't someone else here recently have an EE go broody as well?  I'm not sure what to do with her, I guess I should break her but I don't really have a broody breaker space, lol.  Obviously too hot to give her meatie chicks.  What about coturnix quail chicks?  They do better in heat.  Could she raise a different species for a couple of weeks?

Well, I'm off to do a new google search on chickens raising quail...and searching for cortunix quail chicks locally.

You've probably gotten an answer to this already and I'm not sure as far as quail go because of their size but I had a BA go broody not to long ago (she just started laying again 3 days ago) and her babies were 1 BR and 8Turkeys of various breeds and even though a couple of the Turkeys are nearly as big as she is, she is still protective of them.

I just discovered that someone took my treadle feeder plans and is mass producing them in China and selling them in Pet Club stores. It makes me sick.

Since your article is on here copyrighted and dated, wouldn't that give you some kind of ammo to use against this company? I'm not sure how far you'd want to take this but maybe just talking to a lawyer to see if you have any options or even any ground to stand on. Also you may want to contact the guys on you tube to let then know that they are using copyrighted material and you definitely have grounds to stop them from further benefiting from your design. I am so sorry this happened to you and I hope you can get sons kind of solution. It drives me crazy that you tried to help out fellow chicken owners and others stole your plans for their own financial gain.

I would too!  If it weren't for DH, I may have a small hoarding issue  .  I can almost always figure out a way to repurpose something.  Right now, I am switching that up and figuring out how someone else can repurpose my stuff that's been stuck in closets and boxes for years. Time to clear the clutter!

Good morning everyone.

That little house would be a very cool coop with some wire, Red, White and Blue paint of course. I love the look of old wood. If I had room, ya'll would've never seen the posting. Lol. I too like to repurpose.

you laugh but I would :)
I think @macboat was looking into getting it. With some varnish that would be so cool for kids to see chickens in I think. Because they could relate to the playhouse. I see them all the time so whenever you're ready to stock your new place for cheap, let me know and I can search for you. No reason to pay for anything when so done is always giving what you're looking for away. Keeps it out of the dump and it would fit in perfectly in your educational little farm.
