Iggys are great dogs around the chickens. My dog's first exposure to chickens included a big rooster that attacked them regularly. They leave them alone now. Lol. But really Iggys are the Jaguar of the dog world and are only interested in fast moving prey. Chickens mostly stroll around rather than dash. The other great thing about Iggys is they are not biters. They bark up a storm but I never worry they are going to bite someone.
What color is your old guy other than grey in the face? I have a red who is the mother of my seal brown and blue.

What is an Iggy? I looked it up but found nothing.

So my dog Camo (Border Collie/Blackmouthed Curr/AustralianKelpie) usually keeps everyone on there toes around here, as far as the other animals go. I kenneled him this afternoon because he was being a little s@&t and broke the doggy door. The little plastic flap is now dangling by a corner thanks to him and we were providing A/C to outdoor Phoenix. (Ya'll are welcome if it seemed a little cooler). Anyways I left to run errands and come back to

I put them outside and cleaned their mess and

Doggy door trained Chicken.

You have A/C, now they figured it out.

You probably could potty train them. On YouTub there are videos on how to train chickens. If you have the time, why not try?

Thank you for making me smile!  Lost my first chicken today.  Never would have imagined they would grow on me as much as they have.  Had 3 and only 2 layed eggs.  She was our best layer and layed the biggest eggs.  Not sure what the cause was, just slowed down laying this week.  Layed a smaller egg than usual two days ago, became listless today and layed under a bush. Her comb and waddles were light in color.  I brought her in the house and tried to get her to drink some electrolytes.  She had a little bit, The color started coming back, she got a little feisty but was gone within an hour of bringing her in.  I was glad I was holding her when she passed.  I know that's more about me than her.  Thanks for listening.  

You should do a necropsy. It is hard on a chick you care for but it could save the rest and you will know why.

Bummer!!  Can't get much else in my refrigerator because of all the eggs.

Gotta rub it in don't ya? Lol! If I ever take a trip up north I'll keep you in mind. Hopefully by Octobers end we are in better shape though, once the pullets start laying.

Do you have a smart phone? If so try & catch the little s4/! In his moment.. Then post to the Fourm.
That way we could hear his pitch.. Our rooster is kind of high.. My D.H. Thinks he is.. It was only when he started that is was a low pitch.. Now he has become more protective & let's us all know when something is happening.. It seemed to get louder & higher.. Brat that he is.. He is such a sweet boy, I never want to get rid of him..

I have a dumb phone. Makes calls, takes calls but it can text! My roo's crows aren't grating on the nerves with the collar on, before the collar it was like nails on a chalkboard.

He's a blue & white. When he was much younger he'd walk around the chickens & never bother them. Only animal he liked to torment was the neighbor's golden retriever down the road. He'd run up & nip him on the butt then run around him, barking. That golden could never catch him!

I am so sorry for your loss. We do get attached to these little creatures & each one has their own unique personality. She did know she was loved & cared for by you so holding her as she passed was for both of you.

Yes, it is. Also called IGs. They are an old breed & are truly a miniature version of greyhound. Mine was often mistaken for a whippet which is bigger & has terrier lines in it as well as greyhound.

With the talk of bumblefoot the other day & I proudly stated I ONLY had 1 case ever! I discovered 1 of my blue wheaten Ameraucana hens had bumblefoot. She was not happy with me & dh performing "surgery" & wrapping her foot. I guess that was payback for my crowing the other day!
