well i rechecked and that rooster I bought has more nits so I guess the 7 day intervals is not working. I will be ordering frontline but that will take a few days to get here. I am thinking I will go buy permethrin and dip until I get the frontline. ugh why do we have to have creepy crawlies that want to suck our blood :sick

and does anyone know if I should treat the Turkeys, ducks and geese too?

Can't help you on the ducks and geese since no experience with them, but when I had mites here, I had to treat all the turkeys, too. Now THAT was a real PITA as they do NOT like to be caught and handled and they are VERY strong. And for some reason, I only saw mites on the toms, none of the hens, and they didn't have them nearly as bad as the chickens. I wonder why that was.

I don't believe that you need to treat your geese or your ducks. you can ask on the duck forum.

Does anyone else give your fowl wood ash to dust bathe in? I mix it into their sand boxes with a little DE too. I use around 20% ash, 70% sand and 10% DE. Anyway, wood ash is supposed to be very good at keeping mites away from chickens. OK the crawly things on that chicken makes me itch!
Oh yes we do.. we have a specific fireplace for good wood to burn. Then that ash goes out to the chickens.

Okay, here's a new one for me. I have a young pullet that is pretty good size. The other pullet, that is the same age, and was part of a group I raised. Anyway, the one pullet has no comb or waddle except for just a little tiny ridge that is really pale and just little buds for waddles. The others raised with her all have fairly well developed combs and waddles except for her. She's really good size and I think she's laying. Any ideas why she has no big girl comb or waddle?

Is she the same breed as your other pullets?

I know that the Hamburgs we raised this last year all had their own time for getting combs and wattles.

Some of the girls were well developed at 26 weeks and others didn't get their comb development for another couple of months, and they are all the exact same age and breed. Some advice that was given to me when I asked this question was to look at them as individuals, they will get there. And, they were right! :)
