Very good price. Now I wish I had my trailer still. 16' is pretty hard to transport.

HELP

ok I have a 6 month old Naked Neck hen. she has laid a few eggs (I have 2 same age) 1 has been laying every other day the other only about 4 eggs since she started. I have not received any eggs from them in about 3 days. yesterday I was feeding and noticed Laverne was laying down but she looked like she was dust bathing. I put my foot near her and she jumped up and walked around and then started pecking at the ground. Today I go out and she is laying down again and kind of on her Right side. I picked her up and set her back down to see if she could stand and she did. she walked 2 steps then layed down and kinda turned on her right side. I felt but cannot feel any eggs, her crop was empty and I smelled her mouth and no foul smell. I brought her in my house, put her in a create and gave her food and water and she started eating. WHAT could be going on? I cannot find my chicken bible and this is my favorite NN. I am going to give her save a chick in her water. her comb and wattles are nice and red. she looks good not droppy. I am so worried. TIA for any help.

Is she laying on the right side each time? Any limping? Check her for bumble foot, especially the leg on the side that is up. It sounds very much like what my old hen did last week when I found she had bumble foot. It's one thing that is relatively easy to rule out.

always the right side but I see nothing at all on her feet. she is walking and I am not noticing a limp really just taking a few steps and lays down

Gallo do you still have predator problems? Your coop is so nice and so is your tractor. I love your yard. You are so good at making your chickens and your landscape all blend.

Yeah, they come with somewhat less regularity now that the pups have grown but during their reproductive season they were coming almost every day. About two weeks ago we had another couple of spots where they tried to dig under the fence, so it makes me think that was a new or young coyote. I think that once they discover that it's useless to dig under they don't waste their time. Then last friday I went to let them out around 9:30 and the chickens refused to leave the coop--that was true for birds in both coops. That only happens when they've been harassed. Fortunately, whatever it was didn't try digging under the tractor. I guess it's a matter of time.

Oh, meant to add that an acquaintance with chickens up north of Speedway near Tucson Blvd. lost their entire flock to a bobcat last week. I suspect they were not well secured at night.

Do bobcats dig? Are they shy of pet dogs? Ive seen one in the neighbor's yrd cross the street, but they are reverse snowbirds and havent been around all summer.I wonder if my dogs and my next-door neighbor's 3 shepards keep him/her at bay.

The bugs will always bring a demise to a sicker tree and will prefer to spend their time there. A healthy tree has ways to combat the subtle attack like oozing sap to drown the pest. For underground pests you could look into nemetodes. They are microscopic, and kill all sorts of bad bugs while leaving the good ones like earth worms alone. I'm going to get some here in a week, I have a certain place in my yard that the trees seem to live for almost a year and then die within a week. No signs of any damage so i'm figuring its from something underground.

Hey Kev, I'm about to lose my seven year old Beauty Plum and I lost my pluots last year. I talked to a very knowledgeable guy at my local nursery and he suspects I have two problems: grubs and borers. The beauty plum almost certainly has borers from his description of the progression. While I'm pretty organic, I think I have to go with a systemic poison to try to save it. Even then I wonder if I'll be too late. Did you ever get the nematodes? I think that grubs are affecting the other stone fruit trees and I'm going to try and see if they help. I was also reading on Arbico's site that they're having some success at using them to kill ants.

From what I've seen very little frightens a bobcat. They will bury chickens they've killed, but I'm not sure if they will dig under a fence to get at them. Desertmarcy has a lot of experience with them and maybe she has some thoughts about it. My wife has a co-worker friend that had a bobcat come up in the afternoon and take a chicken right there in front of her, just a few feet away. After killing the chicken it carried it over near her wall and ate it right in front of her. She tried to scare it off but it just growled at her. She got it all on camera too, it was pretty startling to watch.

Did the Velcro work? My maran roo is about 20 weeks old now but not a peep. Trying to be prepared so I can try to keep him.
