Arizona Chickens

Quick update: I am in Terrell, TX. I am at an almost quite RV park, other then the train across the Main Street, it is very peaceful. There s a small holding next door. I can hear thier roaster ever so often, an their ducks. They visit me 3 times a day.

I put grain out for them when they show up. One one them, I think the drake, warns me I am not really trusted and he is watching. Ernie decided to check them out yesterday. I pull him back in time, he was about to attack. :lau
Ernie didn't frighten him.

Hey Kev, I'm about to lose my seven year old Beauty Plum and I lost my pluots last year. I talked to a very knowledgeable guy at my local nursery and he suspects I have two problems: grubs and borers. The beauty plum almost certainly has borers from his description of the progression. While I'm pretty organic, I think I have to go with a systemic poison to try to save it. Even then I wonder if I'll be too late. Did you ever get the nematodes? I think that grubs are affecting the other stone fruit trees and I'm going to try and see if they help. I was also reading on Arbico's site that they're having some success at using them to kill ants.
I haven't ordered them yet, haven't even got around to emailing the guy to ask him if its the right time. I believe the soil temp needs to be within a certain range which might be just right now down in Tuscon. Probably October here. What are/were the symptoms of the trees? Mine look fine for several weeks and then bam, within a week the leaves are wilted and the tree is dead. I've shaded it so I don't believe heat is an issue and the water in the soil checked out fine. I don't see any borer holes which also leads me to believe its a problem at the roots. I wouldn't fret to much about a systemic drench, Its better than losing the trees.

This is day 22 for my Trader Joe eggs under my broody, Penguin. So far, nothing. She is pretty mellow about me poking around so I did that just now and didn't see anything happening. I'm picking up some chicks to give her today. How long should I leave her on the eggs?

I gave my girl 3 extra days but she moved before then. With 3 hatching (one didn't make it totally out of the shell) I figured she knew when things were done. So I took the remainder of the eggs. The two little peepers are happy little clams. They are a week old yesterday and getting their wing and tail feathers. Momma says no to trying to go out and about so I've just taken my cues from her. Lets hope tonight is the night for hatching!!

Well, we have 4 little chicks waiting to meet her tonight. Our coop will be a little over-full, but I added a new roost so they should be fine. Since we've had to go gluten-free we have to use lots more eggs in our baking so we need lots of chickens. (I knew there would be an upside to going gluten-free)

We got an EE, BR, PR, and a BO. I'll leave the eggs for her until she decides to leave them, though.
Which day did your chicks hatch? Are they both getting tail feathers already? That's a very good sign of pullets!

I just put these guys on craigslist. I have no idea if they are boys or girls. I also have a gold laced bantam cochin, a buff bantam cochin, and a gold Sebrite if anyone wants some bantams.
Well I originally posted that in regards to the Jungle Fowl but what I thought were jungle fowl aren't I learned. Lol. I'm at my max on hens but wanted something like a Peacock or something. That's what I thought jungle fowl were. Lol. I'm retarded.

They hatched overnight the 21st day - not sure on the 3rd little one as I found it when she left the eggs. AND YES!! - little tail feathers - I picked them up yesterday - momma does not like that!! - and they are both getting little tail feathers already plus their little wing feathers - fingers crossed!!!

I sit until I can't take it any more and just watch them interact with their momma - up on her back, down by her beak - behind her when she scratches and getting dusted - its better than TV - although I do have a book with me

Momma seems to want them scratching and looking for goodies more than eating their starter/grower. They seem to use very little feed for the three of them.

Does anyone want some large "firesticks" cuttings? They are a euphorbia and here they are green in summer and fire colored in winter, especially new growth. I trimmed my over 6 foot landscape plants and have four kitchen garbage bags full for free, just come get them. They are expensive to buy so I hate to throw out what I trim off.
