I figured that was what happened. My phone does the same thing, drives me crazy!

P.S. chicken breast sandwich is pretty tasty with a roasted green chili too!

We've done the ostrich thing - what a neat experience (that I don't want to revisit). My DH has been reading up on aquaponics, thinking that since our soil is crap, maybe we can garden without any!

Your soil has very little to do with it, You could always try an above ground bed system too. I grow my vegetables in sand and sawdust and will never go back to planting in dirt; trying to guess if and what nutrients are there or needed.
I don't know how to do the multi quote thing but after several of your comments I've concluded that it just might be the cotton/texas root rot. It is only located to one particular spot in the yard so it makes sense. Everyone says there is no cure for it so far but that doesn't sit well with me so I guess I'll look more into the hydrogen peroxide thing and see what happens.

We tried raised beds with seriously amended soil with limited success, but ground critters were climbing the fence to get in! Right now, I have 5 "City Picker" wicking boxes going with beans, squash, and onions and they are doing a pretty good job. I think we'll experiment with aquaponics over the winter. Does anyone know of a workshop or class for beginners?

Yes we did survive.. Still recovering it seems.. I have bruises to prove the fight to keep the water out.. Our boys were out, so I called them and they helped..it just comes down so fast.. The tarp that covers the the run ripped & the run filled up to quick, so when it was calm we replaced it.. This time the chickens ran for cover.. The lighting and thunder helped keep them towards the back & out of our way..

Well, we are about to lose another hen with the exact same symptoms. I noticed this one it seems like a day sooner than the last. She was very slow to move. Stayed in the same spot for hours. Now she is no longer able to keep her head up or keep her eyes open. According to this article, it is more likely to occur during the summer months and describes everything I've been experiencing with both of these losses. I'll be treating my whole flock now to make sure I stop it in its tracks. Anyone use corid 9.6% solution before?
