Arizona Chickens

First ten minutes of being at the show, I was putting everyone in there cages and my mom bought a naked neck rooster lol! We named him Jeff Foxworth (because he has a redneck lol)

:lau

I am stuck at work in southern Pinal County, so can't make the potluck tonight. I will be there most of the weekend, so hope to meet some of you there, and put faces to names for those of you I haven't met yet. Reading the last post, I guess I need to leave my wallet at home!

No wallet just means you will just owe.. :frow. :thumbsup

I went to my old house early yesterday to feed the chickens, picked up 3 eggs, but left them there while I went shopping. Stopped by later, but couldn't get to my house because they were evacuating the area for a broken gas line. Went over again this morning, picked up 11 more and left them there while I went to the poultry show. Stopped again after the show and picked up 9 more! 24 eggs for 2 days, so I'm averaging 12 a day. I'll be in trouble when the rest of the ladies start laying!

HA! I can help you with your problem... :gig

And here I sit on my couch!!  DANG I hate that my brain is ready to go but my body says no, No, NO!!!  Hope all is wonderful at the show.  I so wanted to be there to look and touch :)

You will be better soon.. Yeah, right, look & touch ONLY... If it were that easy.. :drool

There is a coop Fourm on here.. Our coop's are basic. Prefab, except a long tractor I planned on using in the backyard. But, we have a dog that like to eat chciken for breakfast, lunch & dinner. We built a stucko wall with a ugly gate, in my opion.. We really want a different one, on that list of things to do.. So they live on the whole side of our property. It really is a long run.. We used a book case for extra nesting box's. Nothing exciting.. They poop on everything, so I put palm fronds on top of some of the stuff then just toss out when "dirty'ed" up.. Their dust bathing area is a wood contained old fruit stand free from sprouts grocery store. On the top where the fruit went has long wood dividers. Perfect for a lettuce patch. I ran out of fencing to enclose the top. Now we have enough to finish, on that list. It is 4 feet high, by 3 feet across and about 4-5 feet long. The wood on the out side is a pretty stained, burnt color.. When they do their dust baths it is somewhat contained underneath.
We host bonfires so you will have to pop on over for tea sometime. We were hoping to have our red brick front yard patio done this month, but our friends are running a but behind.. So will post up when we do another one..

Your chicken yard sounds eclectic and fun! I have seen a lot of very creative uses for houses & coops on BYC. I am not so imaginative so it helps to have access to this wonderful site. After going back and forth about whether to buy premade or ask my hubby to build, I finally decided to order from San Tan Valley Coops. They have great reviews and were very responsive to my questions. I figured that with everything my hubby has to do, it wouldn't be fair to ask him go build, though he was game. They will have it ready for pick up after next Friday! My chicks are growing so quickly. They are really fun to watch and hold. Finally named each one yesterday. We have Skittles, Sugar, Bertha and Beatrice.

I heard they were really nice there. I bet you are excited!! Can't wait to see some photo's.

Let the "first egg" countdown begin again! I got me some new peeps! I have two gold laced wyandotte, two silver laced wyandotte and two black austrolorp! I am still looking for an adult or chick buff polish in east mesa/phoenix and blue laced wyandottes. I would also like some sort of Maran, any but the standard color.... Chicken math in full effect over here. My son got some carrots out of the garden today and we got 4 eggs!
Wooow, hold up.. Who layed those blue egg's!!! They are gorgeous !!

one fo them was from BBQ my white Amerucana and the other one we don't know along with the cream/pink one. we have 3 new chickens, two of which are being bred by fearless (the roo) so we aren't sure.

BBQ is the one white chicken and new chicken (edit: new chicken in the right bottom corner) is the other we think might be laying blue, or honey, I haven't seen sprinkles the sussex being bred...

this is honey.

Sussex lay cream/brown.. I think you dipped them in special food coloring. :plbb Moma hen Chris had eggs like that. I could not do the @ button. He name did not pull up or I spelt wrong..

Our flock does have the fowl pox.. :sick one French /American bresse has it something awful.. Poor little thing. I can't wait for it to pass.. It has been about 2 weeks.. I noticed it a day or 2 after the coop tour.. It is from those darn mosquito's.. Our poor little Banty hen Clair can barley fit all those eggs under her. We might not have a good hatch rate..
