Arizona Chickens

All done with the show! Got everyone in there coops and settled. Ended up with two slate turkeys, three runner ducks, and a sweet little frizzle rooster (totally forgot what breed he was, but he's a Bantam) his name is Frizzell!

This is Frizzell, I'll get a better picture of him later

For those of you following the story of Amy, the chick that survived a hawk.....
She is back out with her sisters and mama!
She is not quite 100%. She still carries her left wing a little low most of the time, but not all of the time, so I think that will get better as she gets stronger. She is still a little cautious about running and flapping, but has no problem dust bathing.

I also found a good home for my BA rooster, Puffin, today. The guy that took him already sent me a video of Puffin crowing. I think he is happy to have the no-crow collar off because he was really going at it. He said my rooster established himself as boss right away(one other smaller rooster in the flock). He really is a pretty boy and I'm glad he has a flock of his own.

I'm also glad that all of Penguins chicks look like pullets. They are almost 9 weeks and no signs of cockerel! The rooster thing is hard. Every time I get chicks I say we'll just eat a rooster if we get one, but then we end up getting attached, try to keep it, and end up having to find it a home.

I think the sussex is the only one NOT laying. hahahahahha OR maybe she laid the creamy egg on the right. I know the left egg is from one of the buff orpingtons. well Now I dunno, because honey is the one who hasn't been bred at all by the rooster. (it is my theory that the roo only breeds the ones who are laying)
Don't think that theory holds water!! They don't need a roo to lay - so I'm thinking you have someone laying that is not being bred...........just saying - beautiful eggs!!

This was my first time visiting a poultry show and it was a lot of fun. My husband and I were surprised to discover that a fairly close business acquaintance of ours is actually the man who sets up the show. He's extremely experienced in breeding chickens, knows breeders throughout the area, and was exceptionally gracious about offering his assistance should ever I need it. I'm learning very quickly that chicken people are just kinda awesome.

My naked neck mix rooster didn't stop crowing until I made the second anti-crow collar with sew on velcro instead of the type with the sticky back. Life sounds so much better now. I can't hear him at at all. My theory on the rooster mounting thingy IS, he will mount any hen that lets him and as often as she lets him. Some of my girls have all of their feathers, others well I do think I need to cloth them with saddles. They look naked, So Sad. Of course they are molting also. tut tut

What a cutie!

I know some people live in areas where they can't have roosters due to noise issues, but I love to hear my boys crow!

I've noticed (in my limited experience), that my roos have favorite girls. They will go to them first and if the girl isn't receptive, then they go to someone else. Most of the time the favored girl is receptive, but not always. Maybe it's love... :)
