Grats on the first egg!

The fiancé has already acclimated quite well but then he isn't from Alaska like I am so that too be expected. I figure in another few months I will have been here almost a year and will be fitting in just fine. Like I always tell him as long as I can have my garden and my chickens/turkeys I can put up with just about anything else.

He will get used to it. We all do. I'm born AZ, but DH was AirForce. We moved from here to Guam and the the maids in motel thought I was nuts for turning the AC off. Then we moved to CO where they had record wind chills that first year..... -50°, then to some other placed with same temps, then GA, SW Texas below Houston, the moved back here in July 2001 right when we were having record heat.. had to unload a uhaul in 15 intervals because it was 118. I keep my house at 80 in the summer and well........ don't need a heater much... LOL

They say "but it's a Dry Heat"... I've been in humidity, I do like the dry heat more. but HOT it HOT..................

Well, I'm a complete newbie as well, and I must say that my Australorps and Barred Rocks have been fantastic to start out with. They're all very friendly, affectionate, highly trainable, and wonderfully energetic. None of my birds are old enough to start laying yet, but raising them from chicks has turned into one of the best experiences of my life.

I also have a few Silkies, and I adore them, but if I were starting all over again I would wait to get the Silkies until I had a good production flock going.

That lighter barred bird, (Barred Rock?) front right, looks like a cockerel.

I lived Louisiana for awhile trust me I very greatly appreciate dry heat. in

Ugh I am not looking forward to building a new coop. It's weird guns I like, but Power tools intimidate me. Sad part is I know the fiancé won't ever have time to build it so I'm Probably gonna have to hire someone to help me. unless I buy one of those tiny premade coops from the feed store which I really don't want to do.

Yep! He's a lovely little guy I named Shadow. Very friendly, and at just 5 weeks he's already treating the ladies quite well, often allowing them to eat first and playing chase with treats before allowing them to indulge. He's quite the little gentleman and thankfully is getting along pretty well with my two Silkie cockerels...though I'm not sure this level of peace will last once they reach "puberty".

When I told my husband I was thinking of raising chickens he surprised me by purchasing one of these coops and having it delivered. It's proven much sturdier than we had expected to get for the money. The guy will build them per your own specifications to some degree too.

As a side note from a woman woodworker, don't fear the power tools! They're your friends! Once you start using them the intimidation goes away and you become addicted...like me.

Awe! That's very sweet of him. He's a keeper.

Sanders and drills I can use mostly it's the saws that put me off. I know someone who cut their thumb off. . . While I was there. Sooo that might have something to do with it.

I had a great time visiting today with @Gallo del Cielo and @desertmarcy . I had a serious case of tilapia envy at @Gallo del Cielo 's house and @desertmarcy had some heritage turkeys I didn't even knew existed, beautiful! Thank you both! And thanks to @CityFarm for getting the seed box to Tucson and doing all the driving.

I am jealous and I have not seen what has been mentioned except on this web-site boo hop

Oh awesome dude you rock!! Meat tenderizer, that's hilarious. Thank you so much I'm totally excited to get them started.

It is very interesting how many medicines and adjunctive stuff is made form natural plants and seeds. Leutin one of the less know additions to vitamins for the elderly to prevent eye ground deterioration is made form Marigold Flowers. I read that when researching the stuff. (the spelling may not be correct.)
