Arizona Chickens

Awesome hatch! You're making me want some little ones again but I'm gonna have to be content with enjoying everyone else's. Mine seem to grow so big too fast.
I saw The Hobbit today too and thought it was the best of the 3. See it in 3D if you can.

We did see in 3D. It was very good. Really enjoyed it. I find 3D more distracting than enhancing though. I did cry at the end. I'll let you guess the scene. No spoilers! When we got home we watch Maleficent, which was wonderful. I love the matriarchal end to the story.

All chicks are doing great! The OEs I got will be hard to ID from the barnyard mixes. I think the BMs have a slight brown tone on top of their heads (they are black) and have some mottling of yellow around their eyes and cheeks. The yellow fluffballs are Leghorn/Brahma crosses IIRC and are starting to get fluff on their legs! The OEs should have fluffy cheeks as they are half Amerecauna. I think they are all boys. Grrrr.

Are these fully feathered yet?
DH wants his garage back. They said they were 1 week old when we got them. that's the 1st pic.
So that would make them just 4 weeks old now. They seem a little bigger than 4 weeks to me.
Hope you can tell by the last 2 pics if it's ok to put them outside yet.
I can still put a heat light on them at night if you think it's ok to put them out. They will be next to the house and not in the middle of the yard. AND in a separate coop from the 3 adult girls of which 1 has now given me 12 eggs and the other 2 are still zip at 7 1/2 months.

They still have a little fluff around the necks, but you should be able to start acclimating them to the outdoors. When I acclimated mine, I first left them in the coop in the daytime for longer and longer periods each day, then on the third day left them out all night with the heat lamp on them fairly close to the side of the coop; on the fourth night I moved the light further away, and on the fifth I left it off....but the nights were quite a bit warmer then. You may want to leave the light on for longer, decreasing the temp a little bit more each night until they've acclimated enough to go without it.

Hey everybody! It's been a while.
The wife and I finally processed our 8 birds after getting nothing for weeks. We picked up some new girls during Thanksgiving weekend. 2 Easter Eggers and 3 Red Laced Wyandottes. They're pretty birds. I'm guessing them at about 3 months old now. They're growing like mad and have already learned that brew day means a pile of tasty food for them.

I hope everyone is doing well and having a good holiday season.

My DH and I FINALLY got the new run up and ready for the chicks to start enjoying. We still have to add something to the top to protect from aerial predators, but we got a lot done today and I'm pretty sure my flock approves of the results.

What Kind of food you guy feed your chicken to give you good egg?

I use an organic layer pellet, once they are of laying age.

They will be fine outside, especially if you are going to use a heat lamp.
