Arizona Chickens

:welcome
We are right there with ya.  We had several egg layers in Mi years ago.  Buff O., Rocks

Which part of the state are you in?........... I personally don't care for black Australorps. I would rather get a Java chicken or Jersey giant myself. But I really do like the Black Copper Marans, they're good layers and they seem to lay of reasonably larged size egg.

If you want Javas I have a bunch of Black Javas available, from a few days old to three months old.  Need to move some of the older chicks along to make room for the ones still in the incubator.  They are from good quality stock in terms of health and vigor and heritage, but both of my lines need some work before they conform enough with the standard to be real show quality birds.

No guarantees on sex of birds who are not obviously male. Can't always tell behaviorally. I've had laying hens go at each other, chest bumping and kicking with hackles out.  If I hadn't already collected eggs from both of them I'd have sworn they were males.  They are interesting birds. PM me if you are interested.
thank you! I'll keep you posted and PM you. I've heard a lot of good about them.

Happy Easter everyone! Blessings to all!

Tapeworms again! I think it may be only one hen. Likely the same hen that had them before (though I treated all of them). This time I'll only treat the one with tapeworm segments in her poop. So. darn. frustrating. The time frame works so that it is entirely possible that the tapeworms were never eliminated in the first place. After 2 doses of Valbazen and one dose of Zimectrin Gold!!! Ridiculous parasites.

Everything else is great in chicken world. Oh, found a rattlesnake curled up with my 3 week old meatie chicks. Ugh. The rodents keep tunneling in--they are digging through buried wire so it's been an impossible task to keep them out. Anyway, snake must have followed the rodent scent and took a nap for the night--the meaties throw off such a heat, the snake must have loved it. All 6 chicks were totally fine. I'm lucky I saw it, any other corner of that particular coop and I would not have seen it at all.

Does anyone have entry forms for the poultry at the Pima County Fair. I think the deadline is April 10th. My printer doesn't work at home, and I can't access Facebook at work where Caesar had posted them. HELP!

I am so waiting for the snakes to start showing up here. 'sigh' so far it has just been tunneling rodents and a tarantula

Are you withholding feed for at least 24 hours before giving them the dose? That is supposed to help. Then don't feed them for at least 3 hours after. I think I finally got rid of the tapeworms here with Zimectrin Gold. They got a big dose, a big pea sized dose. One tube only treated about 5-6 birds, that's how much I used.

Glad you saw the rattlesnake. We had one coiled up behind a bucket in the poultry house hallway a few days ago. I moved it out to a prickly pear patch a little bit away. They get to stay in the yard but they are not allowed in pens or the hallway

Call or email Ruth Birdsong, she is the show superintendent. Maybe she will mail you one. I'll PM her contact info for you.
