Arizona Chickens

Is the container metal? That would make it hot. You might have said it was metal, just checking on my phone. Hard to read
oh my yes they need a smaller heat bulb and something to hide under to get away from it if they get to hot. Have you touched the side of the tub where the light hits to see if the metal is heating up to much? BTW congrats on getting your new chicks.

For those of you Phoenix area peeps who want a passion fruit vine... I am collecting PMs for now and will let you know soon when I can distribute them. I have a lot of family visiting and don't have any time to manage it now. :) They are leaving Saturday morning so It will probably be this weekend.

That just totally depends on the temperature where you are keeping them. My garage is quite insulated and stays cool. There is nothing like a good thermometer.....rule of thumb is start newly hatched at 100-95 degrees and lower temp 5 degrees (or raise heat lamp to achieve lower temp at chick level) every week until they are feathered out, then they need no more supplemental heat. Also depending on how many chicks there are, they can huddle at night to keep warm. Mine usually go outside by 3-4 weeks without heat, depending on time of year. 3-4 week old turkeys went outside on 5/25, they are doing great out there now after losing their initial fear.
