Arizona Chickens

Questions for all the AZ chicken experts out there. I have two Production Reds and one Buff Orpington who are approaching 18/19 weeks now. I am new to chickens and they have not started laying. Does the AZ heat tend to stress them out enough that it might delay laying? I know they might be immature, but they are healthy and they have found a nice cool(ish...who are we kidding with that word), and I am just curious.
Mine just stared laying I got them in February only 1 is holding out. One of my leghorn laid her first egg in the water pan yesterday. I put fresh water out every couple hours they like to stand in it to keep cool and I freeze watermelon and give to them they really love it.

Hi Arizona People. It's been a few years, but I used to frequent here. I am looking for treadle feeder instructions and can't remember the name of the author. He is a really smart man that lives in Tuscon........has big grape vines growing over the top of his runs......used to post a lot?? I remember he posted complete instructions on how to make treadle feeders....anyone remember??

WOOT!! Found it. Gallo Del Cielo. Who knew private messages would still be available 3 years later? And the name has nothing to do with wine. It's a song about a rooster. Sorry Gallo. But thank you for the great tutorial, looking them now and hoping to build it soon.

New neighbors started building on the acres behind us. They had a truck parked out there for a couple of weeks. When they lifted the hood, tons of my chicken pellets fell out. The lining of the hood was packed full of my feed. The man said there had to be 25 lbs stuffed in there. And here I just thought my chickens were pigs!!

I hope everyone is well!!

:D

It is the heat.. Are their comb's red?

They usually lay around 6 months old on average and Once their Combs turn a bright red and when you approach them quickly and they submit As if they're bowing down to you then they should start to lay anytime. I hope this helps. I use wooden or ceramic eggs that I order on Amazon or from Tempe Feed and tack To show them where I want them to lay their eggs.

Hopefully one of the farmers around here has him and is feeding him. Otherwise he is out there living up to his name.

It was nice to see Momto3 today,my husband was very happy to get the sugar cane.

I only had one mimosa seedling, but the parent tree has a lot of seed pods, anyone who wants some is welcome to come and get some.
