It took awhile for the Muscovy is to warm up to me but now I can walk right past me they don't run away.

No problems, in fact, the chickens are really pumping out the eggs for the last week or so. Went from 8 a day (molt) to 24 a day. Had to sell 10 dozen today just to make room in the fridge. We have just free loaders Here is one of the boys, guarding his ladies.
Hi all. I am new to BYC and was looking thru this thread and came across cyborgs post with the rooster pic. I have a cockerel 9 months old that looks very similar and was wondering,

cyborg, what breed your roo is. I have posted pics in "What breed is this" thread but so far no one has definitive answer. He is about 8 months old in these pics and was dark charcoal grey as a chick. Thanks
Hello. My name is Jenna, I'm new to this. I'm trying to sell my Easter Egger rooster. He is about 3 months old. I want to keep him, but unfortunately my HOA is picky and does not allow rooster. I want him to go to a home where he won't be eaten. I'm not asking for a price. He is free. No price.
We use the no crow collar that's the only reason we keep him. Otherwise he would be going..well, plus he is such a sweet guy..

Sooo.... I left a magazine on a lawn chair and my chickens dicided to shred it and eat some of it. Well actually most of it. Really weird because this is the first thim I have seen them do this. So far chickens are fine, but should I discard the next few days of eggs?[/quote

Huh, they must be hungry. . Get them some fresh green's to get it passed. You can tell when they eat greens. Keep an eye on their dung

Hello, I have both Welsummer and Black Copper Marans pullers, and for the last few days I have been getting some chocolate colored eggs with black spots all over them. I know that Marans have the dark colors, but the welsummers have the sports. Does anyone have any ideo on who has been laying?

Depending on where you get your flock from can also help determine on how dark the egg's are going to be. My Welsummers were not as chocolate as the Black Copper Maran. If I were going to get anymore chickens for egg basket, I would get them from @desertmarcy. I have some mutts from her. They should start to lay soon I'll let you know of their color. Here's one of the girl's from her right now eating some cash from the fire.

I got my welsummers from my local feed store. And i got my BCM from a really good breeder in Phoenix. I don't think that she has a BYC account, but if she does, i haven't found her yet.

deserteggs22 I have had both Welsummers and Marans, my Welsummers had spots on the eggs and have more of a gloss. The Marans are good layers of dark reddish brown with a flat finish.

Ha Ha the person NEEDED to give one away.

BTW I posted the feathersite link for those who are new to raising chickens. I bet the oldies already are aware of the site as a wonderful source of information and amusement
I think flower is correct. They NEEDED to give one away. He is a very nice rooster so far, so no complaints.

Hi, I'm new to raising Chickens here in Phoenix. I'm in North Phx with a pack of coyotes living around us. Would they come up next to the house to steal chickens? I plan on putting a coop up near my back window, and will secure it. Do coyotes eat chickens during the day? I'm guessing so, lol. Maybe a rooster will help deter it?

Oh my goodness, yes. And I wouldn't rely on a rooster. You need heavy wire, chicken wire only keeps chicken in, doesn't keep predators out. Put a skirt of wire out 2' around the perimeter also to keep them from digging under. Once you start keeping chickens, the predators will come.
