Arizona Chickens

DesertChic, those are absolutely gorgeous! I'm just addicted to wood and the endless applications. The knowledge and talents on this board never ceases to amaze me.

I hope those with kids and work around young people would pass on this talent and enthusiasm, even something as simple as building a bird house, to give them a jump start into the woodworking business. --BB

Nice!

I actually use biscuit joinery for a lot of my better furniture projects, thought I really want to try my hand at dovetails when I finally start constructing a new dresser for our bedroom. Here's one of the bookcases I built a while back out of maple.

And this is a table I made out of birch and poplar for my business:
Geeze-a-pizza Desert Chic, you're talented! Very nice! That's some nice stuff. I just wanted to say I love biscuits too - got an older Porter Cable biscuit joiner and love it for joining boards to make table tops. It's a lot better than simply gluing side by side.

For dovetails I've used the Keller thru dovetail jig and cut most by hand. The good thing about doing it by hand is you're not limited in any way - no restrictions that you have with some jigs. The downside of course is it's slow going when making multiple drawers and such. I always wanted a Leigh jig but never got one. I have it on my list though as soon as I start building again. I have a lot of stuff I need to get because I sold a lot of the big machinery when we moved out here. I kept all the hand tools and hand power tools because they were easy to transport but the other stuff was a bit too much. Anyway I've been plotting a return to the craft for a while now and can't wait to get back into it - it's been too long.

Anyway, nice furniture. Keep up the great work!

Im looking at a hatchery right now for some baby chickens, Meyer Hatchery.

does anyone have reccomendations/comments?

we are looking for pretty cheap shipping costs as well as per/chick prices.

Ideal runs specials, but you have to order 25 minimum, .20 per chick shipping plus $7 I think small box charge. Not sure about privet or the others. I think it depends what you're after.

How's Merc? His brothers?

The ACE on 22nd street usually has pretty true to breed chicks and they give you a 90% pullet promise. I have found them to be very healthy chicks and less stress for shipping is a bonus.. there is a guy that works there and he knows a lot about the breeds and can estimate arrival dates for some.. I just got some true blue whiting chicks from him and they are great. I have gotten about 9 chicks from him over the last year and only one roo.. he can tell you what hatcheries they get the babes from etc.. as well. He has a lot of good information. In my opinion

A friend of mine just got some silkies from there. (im sure jealous)

ill try a little more to persuade her our of hatchery.

Quote: Well hody neighboor!!

The boys are doing A-okay.

Mercury did end up getting attacked by a hawk, however as of thismorning he is doing way better.

Acting like himself and running around and crowing.

His throat is still a little swoll, however it is going down. I did end up pulling him out of fair though :/ I had him entered in breed tandard, but he probably isn't going to heal before fair and I dont want to stress him out.

As for Benny and Bowie, they are just as spunky as always and benny was really filled out crest wise.

I mentioned it before, but one sales rep at ACE told me they receive a HUGE shipment of chicks at their main warehouse (wherever that is), then they are distributed to all the local stores. Maybe depending on the breeds, you could have one of those stores customize an order for you to include in their weekly stock from the warehouse. I've only been to three ACE stores in Tucson and they only have about a dozen chicks (left over?) in their small brooders. They have no room for dozens of chicks, but they do have a poster of what chicks are available, just not at their immediate location.

Mom has finally come to terms with the baby chickens.

my grandma, who bought the chicks, brought their new coop by today for me to set up this weekend for them. it is meant to hold 4 chickens so I might persuade my parents with good grades and lots of dishes to get these girls some friends (silkies or polish from the ACE on 22nd im hoping...)

they will move in when they have their big girl feathers.

Their names are August (Auggie) and Rosemary (Rosie May, Rosie, Rose)

they are california whites so ive come to find. I was doign a gender ID search.

they are loooking pretty girly....for the moment....

anyway have some AWFUL pictures of me and my babies.

August in on my shoulder, and Rosie May is in my hand.

they are huge cuddlers.
