Arizona Chickens

This guy in Wilcox has FBM's and Ayam Cemani's. He delivers in the Phoenix area as long as you give him a weeks notice (he's a veterinarian and has a practice in Phoenix, so you could feasably pick them up from his work, too.). I'm planning on trying out some eggs from him as soon as I get back from a trip in a couple weeks.

Thanks. I have already sent an email and checked out his page. Lots of interesting breeds, might be good to add some random one offs for the misc flock. Would love to see if the Cemani and Svart Hona are all that different. Hopefully he gets back to us, might make a weekend drive if he does and has stuff available.

That's not a bad idea at all - I like it! There's plenty enough differences in growing stuff here than the rest of the country, except for maybe anyone living in Death Valley. If I get a chance tonight I'll start it, or if anyone here wants to start it feel free. That's one I'd certainly subscribe to.

Desert Chic is being too kind in her description of me though - I'm just a life-long student and love sharing the info. Doesn't do me any good to keep it to myself. It's nice when we can put our heads together and figure stuff out. We all have a lot more fun that way.

Is the Az gardening thread on byc, or somewhere else? Plz let me know, as I'm interested as well!!!!

He seems to do his emailing Saturday night and Sunday, so you'll probably hear from him soon. I know he goes to Safford on Saturdays midday, I think he has a mobile vet clinic or something, not sure. All I've heard about the difference in Svart Hona's and Ayam Cemani's is the the Hona's are supposedly more heat tolerant. You might want to ask him what he thinks about that. If you do get some from him, let me know and we can compare notes on hatching and bird quality.

Thanks, ejcrist...
I went to the first link you suggested and they were offering three garlic books for a packaged deal, so went ahead and ordered them. I forgot that I still had an Amazon account with all my info, so they should be here by next Friday. It should make for some interesting reading (at least for me). Technical, most times boring, stuff intrigues me, not the fluffy stuff but wanna get into the "guts" of the matter. Give me a service/repair manual over a novel any day, always curious about how things work.

Knowledge is Power, and all the technical reading and materials helped me repair old electronics like these at minimal cost. Parts are cheap, for the most part. The labor is the biggest investment. --BB

I just love this older stuff and it brings back a lot of memories,
8-tracks and all...LOL!

Roger that Bobby - I'm right there with ya. I remember when I was going to college in the evenings in an English literature class we had to talk about the last book we read. Everyone was talking about some novel they had to read for their last English class but when they got to me I talked about a Briggs and Stratton small engine repair manual. The teacher asked what I read before that and it was Nancy Bubel's book "Saving Seeds." When I said that she went to the next person. I think I might've read a dozen novels in my life and they were all required for school. Even when I was in the USMC on ship I'd read math books and books on electronics. How-To books are my mainstay too - very much more interesting. I need to learn to let go of them though because I have them all in my house and garage. It's tough to give them up though because I'm always referring back to them for one thing or another. That's why when I get the woodworking furniture shop back up ad running the first thing I'm going to build are two large book cases that go all the way up to the ceiling.

Seeing your record player brought back memories of my first couple of albums - Deep Purple Machine Head, Three Dog Night, Heart, Steve Miller, etc.I still listen to them but now it's on YouTube.I don't think they made any good music after the 80's - just my opinion of course.

Sure enough. Emailed Saturday night. No BCM or Cemani but hopefully in the future. Thanks for the link. We hope to go see the place sometime.

Still looking for hatching eggs. BCM, Svat Hona and Cream Legbar. First time since we got incubator it is sitting empty.

Also last hatch of 10 Legbars 8 were boys. Looking for a home for them. In West Valley.

Happy Easter, everyone! I hope that everyone is having a good Easter! I got an Easter surprise today. I found a pullet egg, and it had to have come from one of those three that I kept from my New Years Day hatch. Anyways, I had added 7 more hatching eggs to my incubator yesterday, so now there are 23 from my flock in there that are due to hatch out the 1st week of May. Anyone interested in some B/B/S Australorp chicks? lol
