Arizona Chickens

@SonoranChick that buff egg will be your best! Just kidding, but yayyyy!

I remember last year when my girls started I had so many eggs, this year they are molting so no eggs for me,

Speaking of which I keep telling the girls who are mostly feathered to get busy again I'm waiting! Lol
But a break for them is good

OMG! The molt is SO BAD this year! I have over 70 layers and I'm lucky to get a dozen eggs per day, most of which are smaller eggs coming from my pullets. My egg customers are VERY unhappy right now, calling and texting me constantly asking me "when???".

Hey, I've been cruising through the coop and run designs. Did they do away with the small, medium and large categories? All I see now is one big collection of DIY projects.

Anyhoo, my question is...is there an advantage to having all the roosts paralleled instead of hopping up? I see it could prevent chickens from pooping on each other, or squabbling over the highest roost when they put themselves in for the night. I saw one design that had a ladder leading up. How do they settle in when they're all on the same level? Just curious. --BB

I think you highlighted the one real advantage...no pooped on feathers...but I know that as a general rule, no matter how many different roosts I provide at different levels, ALL of my birds will try to squeeze onto a single roost. It's downright absurd to observe at times, but when they decide that one is the favorite they will squeeze themselves together so tightly it's amazing they can still breathe. And the next day they may favor a completely different roost. They do the same thing with nesting boxes. I'll have a dozen clean, well-padded nesting box, but five of my hens will all try to fit into one of the at the same time, pecking at each other, complaining loudly.... chickens are wonderfully weird.
