Yes could be the heat. I'm getting fewer eggs.
I had a girl who was eggbound. She would zone out in that trance in the yard though, and sort of acted like she needed to poop but couldn't.

I can't tell if I am over reacting and just being a worry wort or if something is wrong...but my brown leghorn has not laid in about a week or so. She also has watery number twos. When I researched online, I read that she could be egg bound with her symptoms. But, she is walking regularly, her comb is bright red, and she is eating and drinking. When I pick her up she does not feel hard in her backside and her vent looks ok. Could this just be due to the heat?

She's probably just taking a break bc of the heat my buffs are hardly laying, as they get over 1 yrs old I think the weather affects them more egg laying wise. The watery poo is probably just bc she is drinking more water imo i think egg bound hens show more symptoms and cant poo and they need help within 1 day or so.

I brought her in for a warm epsome salt bath. Kept her in a wire crate inside overnight. She passed an egg and a rubber egg.

I'm betting the heat. If she was egg bound - its almost like a death sentence especially if its been a week or longer. They don't last but a few days when egg bound. This is what I read - I've never had one egg bound. ::::knocking on wood::::
We've had lots of runny looking poop - I always panic then realize its the extreme water drinking that they are doing. I pay more attention to their poop board in summer than the yard poop this princess of poop is forever picking up!!

Thank you everyone for responding so quickly I am really hoping it's just the heat. She has always had the hardest time in the summer months, panting more than the others. I just spent a while in the coop and she did a number two that appeared to be totally water. Just clear liquid. She wasn't eating while I was in there, but neither were most of the others (it seemed to be nap time). She did drink water several times. Her crop feels very hard. Now I'm off to research impacted crop.
When my white leghorn laid her rubber eggs, it was very obvious something was going on. She was walking like she was about to poop, exhibited uncomfortable straining, and overall looked quite distressed. Brown leghorn is not doing anything like this.
I wish I would have gone to school to become an avian vet. This whole guessing game thing is so hard!

@igorsMistress and her hubby picked out the 6 eggs that they wanted. 3 are the lighter brown eggs from my White NN girl's that have the bowties, and 3 are the light blue eggs from the CCLB girls. My White NN roo is the daddy to these. So from the blue ones, she might end up with NN pullets that will lay green eggs and have a crest on the head! I was already starting to save eggs, because I was getting ready to do a test hatch. She needed some of those eggs.
