Arizona Chickens

Have y'all noticed the easier summer its been? I've hardly had to turn on the a.c. for the layers last summer we reached 120 and so far the worst was 110 and I think itvwont heat up that much for the season since monsoon is here! Excited!

The heat and humidity is bad here today. Went out to check on the flock, and came back in the house. I had to change out of a soaking wet t-shirt, and it's not even raining out!

True we in AZ don't handle humidity so great, but the wind and late afternoon clouds really help I'm think my girls handle humidity better at night they aren't as hot as they were last week more rain would be nice makes it cool down alot

Here in Fort Thomas it's averaged a good 10 degree lower than last year. I remember last summer it hit and even went over 120 here at the house quite a few times, and this year it barely got over 110 just a handful of times. I think the rains are starting earlier this year, too....

I agree that last summer was far worse. I think it was June where it got up to 118 here, and then monsoon season was downright disappointing. It rained hard about three times, at night when no one could really enjoy it. I love the daytime cloud cover we have been getting this year. Even if it doesn't rain, the gray skies and huge clouds block out that hot sun and keep it in the 80's-90's.

I went out first thing in the morning the check on brown leghorn Momo and her crop is huge (like a tennis ball) and hard as a rock. I am sure it is impacted. This could explain why she has not been having good poops and has ceased laying. she has not been eating food, only sand and water. I offered a bowl of granite grit soaked in olive oil and will be doing crop massages all day :( Poor thing. She is one of my sweetest girls too.

Oh no! Poor girl. Hope she feels better soon!
