Arizona Chickens

@nicollee

It's great you posted the videos! I see Five is being a good mama congrats!!

Tomorrow and Monday are going to be a bit hotter, and the chickens are used to lower temps so it won't be without a bit of suffering
I'm treating the days as if they are 115 bc the chickens have gotten used to cooler temps

Stay cool everyone

I agree with you on treating it like it's 115. I will have my mister's on for sure out there, and checking on them frequently throughout the day.

@nicollee It look's like you did get 2 little NN's in that hatch, and both are going to be a little bit different in the feather coloring. That's interesting. How are you liking them so far?
They are very cute and rambunctious... I put them outside yesterday, Hoping they can handle the heat, since I'm done for the year with house chickens...

Granulated zeolite. I use it like cat litter on my poop board.

ahhhh, Thank-you... I know it absorbs smell pretty well... Wondered if I could get it in bigger batches, now I know.. Next time I have house chickens... PDZ it is!

I wonder if you can use that PDZ for cat litter.
If it is like the Zeolite I've seen the crystals are too big, and cats won't like it.Plus even though it absorbs smells, I don't remember it absorbing liquids.

I'm very proud of Five Alive... She has been very patient waiting for me to let her go back outside with the babies... I wasn't able to film the babies jumping on her, and going for a ride, but it is very cute.

Thank-you...
I don't know what I would have done otherwise.
They really are so cute, If I had more space, I would have baby chicks alllllllll the time.

I know what you mean. Hubby said that I need to win the lottery so that I can build the bigger chicken palace that I want to have back there! :gig

Wondering if they're using the powder instead of the granules. There are 2 varieties. One's a fine powder (flour consistency) and SUPER dusty. The other's a more coarse granular type, like white beach sand. Some dust, but, like, what you'd expect from beach sand. Not crazy amounts.

I have no idea. I just happened to see that thread and some of you were just talking about the PDZ earlier.

Hello fellow Arizonian BYC owners!

Am newly relocated to SE AZ, near Sierra Vista. And my husband thought we would start our new flock here, with chicks this time. Previously we had 1yr hens to start with and much easier, I think so far!

Anyhoo, I've got lots of questions about raising chicks-to-chickens in this SE climate. Any info or direction to another thread is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.
Cheers.
